SF Trilogy is so much fun
I mentioned this in the chat already. And it seems I need to find a good name for the entire series...
It's about a society on another planet where humans are used as slaves by aliens, mostly for sex. They are bred in special places and treated as property. Of course, there are a few living in the wilderness, having escaped during the turmoil when the colony was taken over, and hanging on as hunter-gatherers ever since.
One of those Wild Ones is captured by the alien Diles, and doesn't end up as prey in a Hunting Game, as most of them do. Zell then proceeds to change how his Master sees him. Soon, he is the member of a little group of four, two humans and two aliens who dream of changing their world.
I have good names for the first two novels:
1) Captive
2) Fugitive
and a tentative one for the third:
3) Rebell.
(Would love to have one that ends in -ive like the others.)
While this story has a lot of sex in it (after all, humans are sex slaves for deprived aliens, who are ritually restricted in mating with their own kind, for good reasons), it is clean sex, and every sex scene adds to the story.
I'm having an amazing amount of fun with this!

Thanks, Jox!
Well, they are upsetting the old world order and creating a new one. So far, Rebel is the best expression I found without giving away the ending...
Basically, it's a fight between two factions and their leaders... ending with the death of the villain who has made herself the leader of the slavery faction.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
You're very welcome.
None of them seemed to fit with the first two titles. But shared them in case they led to a better word.
Obstructive
Destructive
Responsive
Conflictive
I give up.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
I might just go with Rebel. Or find other titles for the first two. I'm reaching the big climax right now, where they are all trying to get away.
My hero is hiding in a metal crate, together with his friend and Master/Owner. Their roles will reverse in less than a day now.
Such fun!!

Good to hear. I'm sure the title is in the book somewhere, and you'll find it sooner or later.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
I overwrote the book!
I wrote a sentence and thought ... that would be an awesome place to end this part. Except I want the book to be longer.
So I wrote on. And the more I'm writing, the more I can see it's already the start of book two, where relationships shift massively and power is redistributed. The challenge is a new one, as well.
So I'll follow my gut instinct now, C/P the last bits into a new file and consider a little side plot to get to projected length. That's what editing is for!
Love this journey. I need a name for the series.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
Well, one of my books on fast writing says to leave off subplots until after the main plot has been written. Maybe you just need to write the main plot for all three books before you go back and add any subplots.
And then again, maybe they're just shorter novels. IIRC, one of the IndieAuthors mentioned writing a number of books with a 70,000 word count.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
Right now, it's a little over 40,000 - I want it to be at least 50k.
I've already started on a little side scene and pulled one apart to give each part more screen time. I'm sure I'll find a few more options like that.
I'm getting better at reworking stories. I used to utterly hate that.

Yeah. I used to think what I wrote was written in stone and had to stay as written.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
I have a friend who does that. It takes her a long time to write a book because she thinks about every scene until it is perfect, and then she writes it down.
She actually keeps most of the book in her mind until she finds the time to write a bit. This last one has taken her about ten years...
It doesn't matter. She writes awesome Star Trek fan fiction that she can never ever publish. I love her people and her books, though.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
Finished part 1, did a first editing pass and added a scene or two. It stands at 45k and feels complete. Ready for beta-readers... who don't mind a lot of explicit but clean sex. Ahem.
I'm working my way into part 2 and my characters revealed some interesting facts about the aliens this morning. It makes surviving in the wilderness extra difficult for them - much room for personal growth.
Of course, they'll be stronger in the end. Still thinking about tests and trials for them and how they grow.
Need to figure out the ending for this one - I know they'll return to the city, but not why and how.
Love being a writer. Love the adventure it is for me, as well.

Re: SF Trilogy is so much fun
Part 2 is not easy to write. Much to do before they can eek out a living, and I'm trying to use that for personal development.
I have two new major plot points which make me happy.
The aliens will learn emotional control and as a result have physical changes. It's a bit like with gorillas, when a male becomes a leader, he becomes a silverback.
And they will reunite with Zell's original tribe which will cause lots of drama, since there are the two aliens with them. Who are universially hated by tribe members. Yay.
Working my way towards those, and it's fun to discover what else happens.
