Writer Workshops / Critique Sites
I hope I have the right forum:
I started a thread on Holly Lisle's How To Think Sideways' Writer's Talk board about "Open Critique Websites / Blog." [There are some on the web who still believe that posting your works publicly is frowned upon by big publishers. I don't think that's the case anymore, but I'm not going to argue the point.]
I started the thread because of a blogpost I read:
http://writeitforward.wordpress.com/2013/08/20/free-books-using-wattpad-and-cool-gus/
And now this one:
http://writeitforward.wordpress.com/2013/09/01/more-free-books-dragoncon-football-whatever/
I'd heard of WattPad before, and I checked it out back in '09, but it was open, and so I passed it over. But, now I'm giving it a second look. I haven't joined yet, but I might.
A couple of members of the forum are also members at WattPad. So, I thought I'd bring the conversation here should anyone here also be interested in the site, and other sites mentioned on the other thread:
WattPad
Zoetrope
Scribophile
WEbooks
These and more sites are listed on the threads linked below. Feel free to copy any of the links and post them here if you'd like:
http://remly2.proboards.com/thread/19/writer-workshops
http://remly2.proboards.com/thread/123/forums-communities
I'm a member of Zoe. I'm not sure about Webook, but I'm considering Scribophile as well as WattPad.
I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on these and any of the others listed on my two threads.

Re: Writer Workshops / Critique Sites
Wow, thank you for those resources.
I haven't heard of any of these, to be honest. Most of my "web time" as Hannah is limited to Facebook, I have to admit.
Do you find them useful?

Re: Writer Workshops / Critique Sites
Right now, I'm only a member of Zoe. And, yes, it was useful. Unfortunately it is slow right now, and I haven't submitted anything in a while. One reason is I'm not too good at writing reviews, and I'd like to improve on that. I do have plans to do more reviews, and adding some more works there.
Most of the old members stick to their private offices with their cliques. And, of course some of the reviews you get aren't very good because of young writers more interested in getting reviews than giving. But you have the option to reject any review you feel isn't up to par.
I do have my eye on WattPad & Scribophile. I might join them. Those two are mentioned more at the other forum. I may go through both threads to check them all out before deciding which I should go with. Another writer forum everyone really likes is: The Water Cooler. I joined it last year, but I haven't been back due to admin duties keeping me away, and then I just forgot.

Re: Writer Workshops / Critique Sites
I'll check out the Water Cooler, but my problem is simply time. I agreed to beta-read a novel, and it wasn't up to par. I still want to do some in depth stuff for it, but I need the file for that. (And scrounge for time.) I do this work for an author group started by the company I pay for the graphics and formatting for my ebooks. So that's our own little support group right there.
