Okay, Here I am writing page 134 of my story (according to LibreOffice) and I just realized that Commander Angeni Tasunke was NOT part of the ship's bridge crew! So I starting looking at the ship's rank structure chart and discovered she was in command of all extravehicular small craft and systems.

Aha! Great solution. emoticon

But what does "Jo" stand for? I'm only familiar with it as an abbreviated first name.

The term stands for strong black coffee (no sugar, no creamer, no additives). It actually appeared in a US Navy manual back in 1913. I decided to use it as a small tribute to my Dad since he served in the US Navy in WWII and it was his favorite drink.

I came across this picture on Pixabay and it says the picture is public domain with no attribution required. The woman matches my mental picture of Terry Wyatt, a character in my story...

I was thinking about centrifugal force today and that gave me an idea on how to handle my fictional "warp transit" effects in a story setting that provides some justifying basis for the things which happen in my story. BONUS! The idea is easy to remember. emoticon

Wohooooo!

I may look into a model creation program (a friend of mine uses it for her covers, and has gotten fairly good with it), for my redhead hunk and possibly the aliens in my erotic SF.

Another learning curve! Argh!!

I was looking at a chart of blood types in a client's office yesterday and it occurred to me that I could base a person's reaction to warp transit on a person's blood type. So I created a basic chart to see how it would work and I like it!

Sorted by antigen and reaction severity:
AB – minor
 B – mild
 A – moderate
 O – major

I am thinking about adding the blood type RH factor to this as a modifier but it isn't needed for this story (maybe in a sequel).

*blinks*

It's a nice idea, but why in the world would WARP affect people differently according to blood type?

Blood type really doesn't create any difference in our normal lives, it rarely makes a difference even with illnesses (unlike sickle cell)... so this leaves me with a little disbelief.

The blood type is like a sign post. There are actually 33 different ways that it can be typed out currently. Plus, there are still 17 gene markers that we do not know why they are there or what they do. But one thing my client told me which is good for my business is that they have determined that the blood types do show a person's susceptibility to some diseases. So my idea is that if the blood can show a propensity towards some diseases then it can also show or at least indicate the type of reaction you might have when making a warp field transition.

Dr. Tobias is going to have a scene in my story where he discovers this and explains it in general terms.

Evolution theory at work! I asked myself what was the original human blood type and googled it. Imagine my surprise to discover that my little "warp transit" effects idea corresponds with the findings of this article. The oldest blood type has the most potential trouble while the newest blood type has the easiest time in making the transit!

Now I have another discovery for Dr. Tobias. emoticon

The old Titius–Bode law gave me the help I needed to design the Moka star system but it also led me to some wild discoveries...

My thought was a star system with two asteroid belts but while working out the orbits of the planets and main asteroid bodies I discovered that Moka has not two but four asteroid belt zones! I also discovered that the only thing that makes sense for my solo asteroid at the far reaches of the Moka system is for it to be a "captured body" which makes its composition even more unusual than I thought. Exploring this system is going to be fun. emoticon

The TABA stories Camp Astral Park was inspired by this waterpark. The park on the PLS Exodus is 240 meters wide x 190 meters long x 48 meters high. The park's primary design is not for recreation so you find both hanging and suspended gardens in areas that are clear, and open sky in my inspirational park...

That looks like a project I actually bought shares for... which then went bankcrupt. The hall was meant to service modern zeppelins, before it was turned into a recreational park.

I was very sad to see the project fail. I still think it's a shame it's a park now... and yes, I lost some money over it.

I'm glad it inspired you for your story, though.

Sometimes the research is boring but the inspiration is awesome! When doing research on the high-end bars that are in some fancy restaurants I saw a picture of a female bartender who balanced the drinks on her arm. That gave me the idea for the "impossible bar trick" one my characters can do in the story. emoticon

So I was trying to figure out how to know when the party would "take off" and this scene of Kay joining Terry and James in dancing popped into my head. It seemed like a good idea but I wasn't sure so I Youtubed it and got this:

James isn't that good but I was pleasantly surprised to see that a nice dance scene with two girls and a boy could really work. emoticon

It seems to me that there must be something special about being the captain of the very first starship. So I went looking around the different military ranks and discovered a rank called "Senior Captain." I changed that to "Star Captain" for my story and then changed the Captain's insignia from silver to gold. The actual rank stays the same in most respects but the insignia change shows that the Captian has commanded a Starship.

This is part of an extended scene.

-------

Yvonne Vlatcovich didn’t want to wake up. The party, dancing, and celebrations had taken their toll. Combined with watching over the Captain and then getting her back to her quarters at dark thirty-something had worn her completely out. She remembered helping the Captain to her bed. But she had been so tired she didn’t remember going back to her own quarters. The bed was so comfortable, the sheepskin bedspread smelled like heaven and felt sinfully nice against her bare skin. Wait! What? I don’t have a sheepskin bedspread! Her consciousness started rising towards wakefulness. Naomi Edwards her roommate, doesn’t have a sheepskin either. Where am I?

Yvonne pulled her head out from under the covers and looked around the tiny bedroom. The room was non-standard. She had never seen it before and she was certain she would have remembered it. Beach colored wood encased the ends of the black wrought iron bed frame. She could see the clever hinge system that would allow the bed to be folded back into the wall. The hinges were brass or bronze, she didn’t know which but they accentuated the bed's appearance. The beige and cream colored sheepskin matched the bed perfectly giving it a classy look. The dresser and desk area were also clad in wood, the grain pattern matched the beds frame perfectly. She did a fast scan around the room. On the wall facing her, there were curtains framing the holo panel which was disguised as a nine-pane window. The door into the bathroom had been replaced with an open louvered door with a frosted glass window insert. On the cabin styled chair next to it were her clothes. They had been neatly folded, her comm unit sat on top of them with a tented card beside it. Her shoes were under the chair, sitting neatly on the tiled stone floor.

-------

Yvonne is a nurse, the room she is seeing is on a spaceship. I am having trouble getting a handle on the emotional reaction she would be having, waking up naked in a strange room with no clue on how she got there.

Suggestions? Ideas?

It's a neat scene.

I think there should be more fear, though. I doubt she'd be able to notice all the details (should it bee "beech"-colored wood?) until she manages to calm down.

She might bolt out of bed and throw on her clothes before even reading that card. Then she could calm down and appreciate the room. That would depend on the message, of course, but you haven't indicated any threat yet.

I reworked the scene to indicate more trepidation and a little more fear ...

-------
Yvonne pulled her head out from under the covers and looked around the tiny bedroom. The room was non-standard. She had never seen it before and she was certain she would have remembered it. Sliding out of the bed she moved quickly to a cabin-styled chair which had her clothes on it. She pulled them on quickly, ignoring the tent card which fluttered to the floor and scarcely paying attention to the sharp creases in the pants legs. Her comm unit was dead, she tried it several times before admitting that to herself. She heard someone moving about on the other side of the door. Weapons? I need a weapon. Her eyes darted around the room. Beech colored wood encased the frame of the black wrought iron bed she had woken up in. She could see the clever hinge system that would allow the bed to be folded back into the wall. The hinges were brass or bronze, she didn’t know which but they accentuated the bed's appearance. The beige and cream colored sheepskin matched the bed perfectly, it would have a classy look when properly made up. The dresser and desk area were also clad in wood, the grain pattern matched the beds frame perfectly. Breath girl, whoever put you here have no idea who they are messing with. She pulled the drawers of the dresser open. Guy stuff. Big guy stuff! Nothing that could be used as a weapon. On the wall facing her, there were curtains framing the holo panel which was disguised as a nine-pane window. The control unit was missing but maybe the curtain rod? It looked like wood but refused her tugs to come loose. The door into the bathroom had been replaced with an open louvered door with a frosted glass window insert. No help there. The cabin-styled chair was a single piece, molded to look like crafted wood but too heavy for her needs. Her shoes were under the chair, sitting neatly on the Tuscany style stone floor. They would make a poor weapon choice.

The smell of bacon was in the air but she ignored it and reached instead to pull the pocket doors locking bar in place. Wait a minute! Who puts a mechanical lock on a door inside a spaceship?
-------
What do you think?
