Online Videos of note So I thought maybe some of us saw an occasional interesting video online, that they might think was worth sharing. At least, I some times see videos which are worth sharing.
Like for instance recently this video on the l'Hydroptere sailing ship, well it's more like a hydrofoil sailing ship and holds the current world record for sailing speed. (It's probably faster then you think as well )
So if any one has videos worth a quick share, this will hopefully be the thread to do it in.
Re: Online Videos of note The l'Hydroptère actually attained a speed of 61kts. but did not maintain it long enough to qualify that speed as a record (it was during a gust and they capsized shortly after). What's really fascinating is that hydrofoils are now over 100 years old. I had a cool vid of that boat I posted in chat but now I can't find it.
So to stick with the current theme I'll show off a smaller sailing hydrofoil the International Moth. I suggest watching to at least 2:30 when the camera switches perspective allowing you to actually see how high they ride in the water, and how agile they are. I also recommend muting the volume.
Re: Online Videos of note I didn't realize how high they do come out of the water. And stopping seems to be a little tricky, as well.
Still, it's an amazing technology. I wonder when we'll see more of those - with that speed, they make all other sailing boats look as if they are standing still.
Re: Online Videos of note I just remembered this very thought provoking video and though maybe it would be something some of the people here would like.
Re: Online Videos of note Well this isn't actually one video, but more an incredible amount of interesting videos. Maybe some one will like to point out some in particular, but never the less you should most definitely take a look at this site as well... I don't think there is a similarly large and truly informative collection of interesting videos anywhere else at all on the internet.
Re: Online Videos of note Yeah, if you ever have some time, you should look through some more of that list, just pick what seems most interesting I guess. Because it is way way to much, unless you have quite a lot of free time.
Re: Online Videos of note Some one made an Anthem of Science, making use of some sound manipulation and parts of some fairly famous scientists speeches etc.
Re: Online Videos of note I return to this thread with a video of matrix ping pong, I hope every one likes it. Though perhaps many of you already know of it.
Re: Online Videos of note Ah yeah, I think it set off a series of matrix like things... probably, or they were already doing it and it caught more attention now. Not really sure, but they do have some amusing ones.
Re: Online Videos of note The history of asteroid detection from 1980 to 2010, it's pretty interesting to see how things changed over the years. In 2010 you can even see a new search pattern showing up as well. It was suggested that the new pattern was from the WISE telescope which detects things in infrared. I guess it would be good for instance in picking up dark otherwise hard to see objects.
Re: Online Videos of note An interesting time lapse series which is really rather well done. I'm especially impressed that the camera moves smoothly during the time lapse.
