Re: The Castle Picture

Part of the problem I'm running into is that the castle picture is very detailed. When I shrink the spaceship too much and move it away from the MA text, it begins to look like an obvious cut and paste job because the LOD does not match between the ship and the castle.

Moving the board name would [sign in to see URL] I don't have the original image file with the text seperate from the background. So I'ld have to cut it out and then re-hand paint the background, since it has some texture. If I'm going to do that much I'd rather just start over and do a really nice custom pic.

I'll try a little smaller maybe with a fade to hide the loss of LOD.

I'll look through my pics, but I fear I no longer have the png or whatever I used to create it in. I do have the castle pic, maybe even a colored version.

Well, I think that the new pic atleast is a good deal better yet, compared to your previous one. Moving the lighting to the front really made the lighting match better on both pics.

Didn't expect you to manage to move the lighting effect to this extent either, great work. emoticon

I'm guessing making it smaller and still well above the castle doesn't work either then incidentally?

I actually sort of like the ship being behind the name. It makes the name blend in with the rest of the image, better.

Firle, If you can send me the original background and the colored castle [sign in to see URL] can do alot more with the image.

I'll try to post a pic of what it does when I make the ship too [sign in to see URL] it winds up either having too much detail for something that far away, or it winds up not being readable as a spaceship (looks sort of like a cloud.)

Bane, I tried to send one to you, but your email provider gave me the finger. Probably too large a file. We'll work out something else.

Edited to add: I just sent it as zip. Hopefully, it'll go through now.

How large a resolution is it Firle? And maybe you can send it via some kind of alternate route? I can handle fairly large files if need be for instance.

I could add a directory for Mystical Adventures to [sign in to see URL] Firle. That way the pics could be retrieved/shared via a password protected ftp and the would be no file-size limit.

It's not a bad pic, though one half wonders if you could manage to make something interesting out of it anyway. I don't suppose anyone has the free time and photoshop skills for it?

Here, I tossed together a quick little idea.
Slightly more dynamic (though far from perfect).

I'm obviously out of date because I remember quite liking that contour map you had way back when as your original image.

My favourite German castle has always been Schloss Neuhaus, though that may have something to do with the fact that I used to live round the corner from it. It and the Rathaus (in Paderborn proper) have always been my favourite examples of German architecture. Not quite so...'atmospheric' as Marburger, but certainly very pleasing to the eye.

Gary: Interesting. I like the spaceships but I think their "tracks" are still too strong. It's a great draft, though, especially with the burning tower.

Love the concept! Is there a way to make the additions look a little less "cartoony"? It looks fine on its own, but doesn't fit well with the older picture. Maybe Firle's right and toning down the tracks would help. Otherwise... are the two ships in pure greyscale?
