So I did a rather insane thing yesterday.

I called it a "Challenge Day", and documented on FB through a bunch of videos how I managed to

- finish formatting "Dragon Prey" for print
- finish writing an SF short story for submission today.

I wrote 2,819 words for the story yesterday. emoticon (And cut back about 500, too.)

I do feel rather accomplished. I can see myself doing that kind of workload every day - IF I didn't have a day job... emoticon

Good job! emoticon Nice to see you excited again.

I wrote a page and a half on the Xena episodes today. Ideas for articles once I have time for this project.

I didn't write yesterday. emoticon

I managed to do the blog before going to work, I came home, did a couple of other things, did a last quick editing pass, composed the email and then submitted the story to the magazine I wrote it for - and then I opened mail with unpleasant news.

That derailed my day somewhat... but I did sit down to think about Princess Loanna (Prince Orlen's sister) who ends up being made Queen, and how she manages to hold up against all the different problems facing her. She will turn into a formidable Queen, but for now, she's a scared young woman overwhelmed with what's happening.

I have two poster board game boards I created in 1987. The second one needs a lot of work, and today some ideas came to me and I jotted them down for safe keeping.

That's wonderful. Well done!

I thought I had everything under control with the unpleasant stuff.

It got worse instead. emoticon emoticon

With a bit of luck, it is still manageable, and at the worst, all it will cost me is money. (I'm telling myself that so I don't panic.) I will find out in a few minutes.

I very much doubt I'll be able to write today. I'm frazzled beyond frazzled.

I added 36 words to "Gossamer Dreams" before lunch today. Then I decided this story wasn't a good fit for my feelings. Now I understand better why writers have various tales going both in their head and on paper. After lunch, I'll see which of mine is calling to me. emoticon

"Gossamer" word count thus far: 3,200

Well done. Part of being an effective writer is to recognize moods and inspiration.

And I think you're still trying out which genres work well for you, and which ones need a special mood.

I didn't write yesterday, either, but I made HUGE progress in the unpleasant stuff going on. It is now much less urgent, and possibly will be solved in about a month. This is outside of my control now. I will not let that happen again.

I added 71 words to my "Broken Lands" story before going to bed today. Bobby is on a camping trip and has caught his first fish!

BL word count thus far: 955

I did a little editing on a 1,901-word article for Runboard. I believe it will be bigger than this once I am finished and add in the "contributor and source citations."

I needed the writing prompt from my FB group to write anything at all yesterday. Wrote a fairly pointless scene and didn't even bother to check the word count. And told my writer brain to come up with something cool for it.

Which it did. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Its part of the healing and recovery process and I, have been told it's normal (sure doesn't feel like it though). The good news is I can deal with this and remain productive as long as I listen to what my body and mind tell me and don't try and push it.

I know all of this sounds vague, but its the best I can do on sharing at this point.

I outlined plot scenes for "Beyond the Window" and "Broken Lands" this morning and depending on what happens on this "crunch day" I hope to add words to one of them tonight.

146 words. emoticon

But I'm getting a clearer picture on the accidental SF story (called "The Glow" for now). And I'm going to try something that was suggested in an author book:

Finish the prologue and start Chapter 1 (introducing my human MC), and then stick it on my website and ask for feedback. That author called it "minimum viable product", and not to waste time on it if your "fans" dislike it.

I'm pretty sure my fans will like it... it'll be SF with a somewhat shamanic touch. But still. I have SO MANY projects, I need some ways to decide which ones to put on priority. And a stand-alone is harder to sell than a series.

And... writing that, inspiration struck!

This will NOT be a stand-alone. My MC is the same woman starring in the short story I wrote for that magazine (which has not gotten back at me at all). Which means I'll have more stories set in THAT universe, and thus ways of selling through.

No writing... but I did format "Dragon Prey" for ebooks, and I started my final read-through. Still weeding out errors and booboos. With luck, I can upload later today.

I also found the title for my accidental SF tale: "Plasmodium".

I woke up with my vampire novel on my mind, and wrote a page of scene ideas. And then I wrote a page plotting out four scenes per act. The fourth scene of acts 1--3 being the transitional plot points that move the story forward into the next act. And the fourth scene of act 4 being the climatic scene.

I liked that 'Rule of Four' idea, of writing the four most important scenes from each act and then connecting them with other scenes, so much that I wrote three pages in my non-fiction WIP trying to flesh it out and build on it. It might be something that works for me, and I don't want to forget it. (Time will tell if I keep it or go back to the drawing board.)

That's great progress, Jox! If it works for you, it's right for you.

Yesterday has been fairly insane, and today has been the same.

Tuesday: Finished the final read-through of "Dragon Prey", formatted the ebook and uploaded it to Amazon, along with he cover. Hit "publish".

Uploaded the print interior to KDP Print and saved the progress, and then I went and wrote 109 words for "Plasmodium".

Today, my cover designer got back to me with the print wrap, and we got it more or less looking good. Uploaded it, and it's not working - text too close to the barcode. He'll fix it for me tomorrow.

I also set up today's blog (including video) and newsletter, and I applied for a job through a job portal. Chatted with a friend (a much needed break), and now I should write a little... just to keep writing.

And tomorrow, I have a similarly insane schedule, before I go on vacation on Friday. *drops*

Re: I Wrote Today!

It just gives me an idea of how the plot might possibly unfold. I have scene ideas, (suggestions), for all but act four. I know basically that the hero will win, so the fourth act/scene four 'generic' idea is added ... I just don't know the hows, and whats, etc. I figure, the more I write on the other acts, the clearer act four will become, and then I will have basic scene ideas to jot down for scenes 1--3. And I'll know more about what will happen during the climatic scene.

Everything is still open for change. Because, we know changes always come once the real writing is in progress. At this point, I really don't know enough to flesh out these scene ideas yet. I'm kind of working my way back from the climax to Act 1. I'm not sure when I'll begin writing seriously on this project, I want to finish the non-fiction book/s, article/s, and game board/card projects first. The whole point of working on the non-fiction book/s is so I can figure out what works for me ... and then publish them in case what works for me works for others too.

I'll edit the appropriate postings to include the set-up and tragedy once I finish this part of the story.
