Yesterday was a bad day for writing. emoticon

You see, I had to answer over 100 birthday wishes on FB. I had a friend singing "Happy Birthday" to me on Skype. And I went out to dinner with a friend.

Not much time for writing. But I managed 1,015 words anyway. Finished five minutes before midnight!

Yesterday and today, I wrote ~1,700 words on each day. Story is growing nicely. Very happy with that.

1,550 words on the balcony yesterday.

Since I keep track of my word count, I can also say this:

Over 10,000 words for last week.
Over 30,000 words for this month already.

Yes, I'm impressing myself. emoticon

I have been negligent in my editing in a hopeless effort to code multiple skins, write numerous stories, and edit "First Transit" on a daily basis. It doesn't work! I find myself neglecting various works everytime I hit a stumbling block on whatever I start with each morning.

I managed 50 words in "Beyond the Window," but I think I need to flip a few things around, maybe set certain days aside for each of my projects to kinda guarantee some progress on each of them on a weekly basis.

I mean really now! I do much more than 50 words overall but who wants to see a list of nine projects with 10-50 words on each one?

Rick: This is part of creating systems. I believe you're familiar with that.

So you can experiment with making Monday a coding day, Tuesday a writing day. etc. - or choosing another method of focusing on one thing for long enough to see reasonable progress. Experimenting is the only way to find out what works for you.

I sat on the balcony and wrote 1,614 words. Having fun with Zell and Shabs (who is his alien friend). They are pranking nasty Hunters, saving some humans and trying to capture those Hunters. No, things will not go according to plan...

Those evening writing times have become my favorite time of the day. And they are giving me much happiness. emoticon

I wrote before going to bed, (after 12am), and again when I woke up. I wrote around 12 notebook pages. One page for one project, and the rest for another project. I love when the words flow ... but not so much when they flow faster than I can write them down.

I wrote 8 notebook pages today. 2 for one project, 3 for a second project, and 3 for a third project. Two of the projects are connected. They're for my nonfiction projects. The other project is an article on a TV show character. (Xena) I haven't decided yet what I will do with it. -Should I save it for when I finally set up my own website? Or should I post it on Tumblr or some other blog? Or a message board? Or all of the above?

PR: I have 'written' stuff in my head at work, and then put it on repeat until I could get home to write it down ... or could write it down during a break. (Might be best to use a digital recorder instead? Well, that would depend on the job, and if you have the privacy to talk to yourself. -- Can get a headset with a mic, and put the recorder in your shirt pocket? Give you hands-free ability.)

Firle: You're doing great. At this rate you'll have several stories finished at once. Fingers crossed one or more of them busts open the floodgates for fans to take the load off of marketing for you.

Jox: Well done! I like your ideas about recording stuff. I usually walk home and can sit down and write as soon as I reach my computer (I rarely do that now, but that's how it used to happen during my mad years. emoticon )

Rick: Wohoooo! Great progress. Maybe splitting up creative venues does work for you. emoticon

I sat on the balcony, got Zell to safety and switched into the next chapter where he is almost fully recovered. They are discussing the nasty, criminal fighting ring and how to break into it. They just turned a small fish criminal who might help them smuggle Zell into it. And his love and mother of his kids demanded that she goes with him... not sure what to make of THAT.

Writer Brain will show me, I'm sure. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yay, Firle! emoticon emoticon

I wrote around 4 pages today. Some of it is sort of a repeat of other written passages/information, but with newer ideas, and a fresh look at it. I decided that it would be best to just write it down as it comes to me, no matter that it contains stuff already noted. To edit at this stage might slow down the flow. emoticon Plus, it will help to connect stuff together when I type it all up, since there is repeated info. I'll know exactly where it goes when it is all sorted in its proper place, and I'll pick the best written parts and discard the rest.

Jox: That sounds good. You know your process, and interrupting the flow is potentially a bad thing.

I thought I'd be getting used to the heat, but I'm not really. I took a long nap yesterday afternoon, and that helped. Definitely not getting enough sleep at night.

I wrote 1,668 words on the balcony last night. I started a bit earlier and that was good. This is NaNo quota. I want to gradually get to the point of doing that every day. It takes me about an hour. And it always feels good.

With this kind of writing speed, I may actually finish quite a few of those ideas languishing on my hard drive...

I live where the 'feels like' temperatures can get in the 100sF every summer. You never get used to high humidity. It's just way too draining on the body. The body can't deal with it without help.

Can you soak some hand towels and wrap them around your neck and waist? Wring out the towels enough that they're not dripping all over the floor, but wet enough to dampen your clothes until the heat dries you off.

When I worked at a speaker factory, I was in a metal building with two small windows and two huge doorways. One doorway went into a hallway, the other went into a store room. There was no air conditioning inside the metal building. It was like being inside an "Easy Bake Oven." (A child's play oven that cooks with a light bulb.) Mom had some long pieces of cloth, somewhat like table cloth runners. I would take one to work each day, run water over it in the bathroom sink, and put it around my neck. I didn't wring it out because the floor was concrete. It was so nice until it dried out. I'd race to the bathroom and hold it under running water again and the heat was no longer a problem, for a while.

And a fan blowing on you with the wet towel around your neck/waist works even better. Hope it cools down there soon.

Jox, I could probably do that at home. Hardwood floor, so they shouldn't be dripping. So far, the fan has helped. I managed to cool down the apartment to 25C during the night, and I have now closed down everything.

That metal building sounds horrible. I can't imagine it would have been acceptable for a workplace here... it must have been freezing cold in winter...

Once again I wrote on the balcony, after it finally started to cool down. 1,723 words, and three fights in that gladiator place. Two were wrestling style matches, for show and drama. Zell "won" his because he caught on quickly. Then a deadly serious fight between two humans, and the loser will die horribly tonight in my next writing session. emoticon

In the Winter time I put on layers: Long johns, sweat pants, jeans ... Insulated undershirt, t-shirt, sweat shirt ... Flannel shirt, sweat jacket, jean jacket, sleeveless hunter's vest. This learning experience helped me out when the ice storm of '09 took out my electricity for 15 days/nights. (Jan/Feb)

I wrote a couple of pages today. I'm wondering if I should break up the project into two articles. One idea doesn't quite fit in completely with the others, even though there is a tiny connection. The others are peas in a pod.

Yes, layers are the only way to go in winter. Goodness, 15 days without heating in winter sound horrible. emoticon emoticon

Yes, if your writing brain tells you to separate the project into two articles, go for it. Clarity is key.

I wrote on the balcony, until a wasp decided to nibble on my toes and couldn't be persuaded to stop. I kept writing in my armchair, and now I know where I'll write in winter. emoticon

I ended up with 1,777 words. I'll have to mark NaNo quota in my word count file. Zell had to watch a horrible death, and is trying to make friends.

I'm also pondering splitting up Zell #3 into two novels. I have plenty of material, and just need to change a few things around. I even have titles ready.

Right now, I feel rushed, trying to keep the novel to the size of the two previous ones, and it's not good for the plot. So this will be a weekend project...

Yeah. 15 days was the total. It was 13 days/nights, then the lights were finally turned back on ... for 2 days/nights, before going off again for 2 days/nights. I read 17 books in those 15 days. I was lucky ... some people were without lights for a month or more.

I wrote a couple of pages. Still debating about separating them. I think I may have a way to make it all work as one article, but I'll leave the option to split it up should my ideas not work out.

Ouch. Glad you managed - looks like you did fairly well. Yay for books!

Well done with the pages. What's holding you back from separating them?

I sat on the balcony and wrote. Checked word count twice, once at ~600 words, once around 1100 words, and decided that it wasn't enough. Ended up with 1,724 words for the day.

What I really like is how effortless this feels. I remember my NaNo struggles, and this is nothing like that. Once I get up to writing 2k every day, I'll be very happy. I might have to add morning writing time to do so, but that would be perfectly fine. This is actually part of creating a writing career, and I am laying the foundations for it, finally.

This weekend, I'll perform surgery on the story and cut it up into two parts. I'll keep writing new words, but the editing will take more time than planned. Which is fine.
