Re: I Wrote Today! Another very quick write yesterday, 1,039 words in 30 minutes. I was running out of time, getting ready for a webinar - which didn't get off the ground until 20 minutes later and wasn't quite worth the time.
This time I was writing a little story I call "Mashira Midwife", which I want to use for my newsletter. I hope I can finish it today.
Re: I Wrote Today! I did write today though not on my long story. I'm not sure if I just don't have the skills to write it yet or am not in the right mindset, but what ever the reason I just keep rewriting the sames scenes trying to get the emotion right. And failing...
So today I switched stories and had fun. Only six hundred words in an hour but I didn't plot anything so made up a bunch of stuff at the same time.
--- I'd procrastinate now, but it would be easier tomorrow.
A fantasy tongue twister: Sputtering silver sliver Sphinxes spit splinters.
Re: I Wrote Today! I did a bit of background plotting for "Gossamer Dreams" to get back into the mindset for writing the story. Then I added 136 words to the previous scene where Chanel finds out the victims slacks were super-glued to her legs.
Re: I Wrote Today! I tried something new this weeked: I fired up my little notebook, did all the updates that had acrued since my vacation, and then I sat down on the balcony to write. I even turned off WiFi.
I also have this old, old wooden tray that is rather heavy - oak will do that - which fits my laptop perfectly. It's amazingly comfortable to use with my balcony chair.
Satuday evening, I wrote ~1400 words, and yesterday almost 1600, without even trying hard. The words simply flowed in a distraction-free environment.
Re: I Wrote Today! I wrote 1,183 words yesterday. Zell had to listen to a sad story.
It was hard to focus because my neighbors below me were loud, and of course, the smoker was smoking. I'm trying not to hate.
(Of course, he's delusional - severe coughing, but he thinks he's "not smoking much" - hahahahaah, at least one or two cigarettes per our, a pack per day - "not much"??)
Still, sitting down with the lappy to write is obviously a good idea and working for me. Will have to figure out a way how to do that in winter.
Re: I Wrote Today! I hate power blinks! I had over five hundred words written in my "Gossamer Dreams" story then the power blinked and I lost all but the 135 words I had saved in LibreOffice!
GD word count thus far: 2,159 (but I did write more grrr).
Re: I Wrote Today! Been there, done that. I try to save every so often. I think you can set up an automatic save? If you already use auto-save ... my bad ... or decrease the time limit?
Re: I Wrote Today! Rick: Ouch! That is always so annoying.
Jox: Yes, autosave is a god-sent. I have mine set to every 5 minutes. It is a tad annoying in LibreOffice because it interferes with typing, but well worth it.
I'm having a backache, and it took a while to figure out a way to sit in my balcony chair without pain. I finally did, and I wrote 1,225 words for Zell #3. Yay.
Re: I Wrote Today! Well done with writing on a crunch day!
And well done! with the LibreOffice settings. Autosave can be a lifesafer.
It was took cold to sit on the balcony last night so I wrote at my PC again. However, I have gotten nice practice on focusing, so it wasn't hard to get my word count. I just had to post in The Write Mindset on FB inbetween...
I'm working towards a happy reunion, and then I need to create a sad event to push Zell and friends into investigating horrible abuses of humans in the city.
Re: I Wrote Today! Today I added 120 words to "Transit Promises." I am starting to gather the primary characters together in one place for the next story event. (I'm not sure what you call it, it's a group of chapters that connect major themes in the overall story).
TP word count thus far: 16,592
I would have written more, but I need to go to bed early tonight so that I can get to the bank early in the morning.
Re: I Wrote Today! Gossamer Dreams called out to me today, and I wrote another 337 words to the story. Chanel and Jeremy had a brief chat about a mysterious girl in town (she is 17 years old). What's so strange? The girl says she want's to use Wizard Falls for a movie set and seems to have the money to show she is serious about her offer.
Re: I Wrote Today! I wrote 1,403 words on Saturday, and 1,398 on Sunday.
The Zell story is growing well. And the series will be called "The Franssisi Chronicles". Franssisi is the name the humans gave that system. (Actually, Franssisi Four is the planet.)
Re: I Wrote Today! Today I added 82 words to "Gossamer Dreams" before going to bed early. I keep introducing minor characters in the story so I'll have to start a story-bible before too much longer.
Re: I Wrote Today! Another root canal treatment yesterday (and no, there's one more because it didn't go well...), and I came home utterly exhausted.
Writing is about the only source of joy these days, so I wrote in the evening. 1,230 words.
Zell's own little Tribe is safe. Now he has to worry about his old Tribe getting hunted into extinction, with friends getting killed or taken. And they have to find out who is behind all that - and stopping it.
Re: I Wrote Today! I wrote 1,334 words for Zell last night, once again on the balcony. There was some mild rain while I wrote, and when I was done, I took all the cushions and blankets inside. I had just finished that when the rains started in earnest.
We need the rain. Badly.
I'm happy with my writing. I just need to add non-fiction and online class creation to my daily todo-list... we'll see how that works out. My days are getting fuller!
Re: I Wrote Today! The day ran away from me yesterday, so it was already 9:30pm when I finally settled on my balcony to write. Got 1271 words when it got too cold and dark to continue at around 10:15. Was an hour late for bed and didn't sleep well at all...
Re: I Wrote Today! Lots of writing yesterday. 1,671 words writing on the balcony. It's mostly talk, but they are gathering information and making plans. (Next up: Zell becoming a father)
I sent a pdf of Dragon Prey to a test reader. I hope he has good feedback. (And doesn't stick it up on a pirate site.)
Re: I Wrote Today! Can you watermark your PDFs? IIRC, there's a way to fix it so that the PDF can't be printed or altered. Haven't checked to see how it's done though.
Re: I Wrote Today! I haven't tried, to be honest. I'm using the export from LibreOffice to create PDFs.
I tend to trust people... my fault, I know. I have thought about changing out a name so I can pinpoint the pdf to that person... but I didn't.
I added 1,247 words to Zell #3 yesterday, before it got too cold to keep writing on that balcony. Right now, it's 16C, and it's a cloudy day. Yep, summer in Germany.
Re: I Wrote Today! I didn't quite know how to move the story into the next phase (and honestly, dragging the babies along isn't much fun), but balcony magic worked, and I wrote 1,459 words for Zell.
He's now looking at pics of a gladiator ring that's probably illegal, trying to find abducted members of his Tribe.
