After a weekend of failing to write, I pulled out an old, old short story of mine and edited the heck out of it. It even got a new ending. emoticon

I hope to be able to submit it shortly. It's my only sword and sorcery piece, and longer than most. Hopefully, there's a market out there.

I wrote about 3 paragraphs last night.....

I know Iknow, its not much, but considering I hadn't written anything for 2 weeks, t felt good.
It was 3 paragraphs of summary, so when I actually write it out long-wise it will end up being several chapters. emoticon

I'm still polishing this story. It's good to reconnect to my old heroes, and see the story take on a new shine.

It's fun. I've never spent so much time making a story perfect. I think I'm almost there. emoticon

Today, I did some editing for my short short story, and then, much to my surprise, wrote 600 words for a brand new short story in the evening.

Once again, it's a story about a hero from my novels, albeit one who got rather shortchanged. I basically kill him in book 1 and only go to rescue him in book 4.

At least now I'm writing his story, and I'm loving it already. Nice, dramatic, gritty, classic sword and sorcery, too. (Easy to do with a magical sword and a wizard as hero, eh?)

Well, I've not been here because I've been writing almost constantly. 40k word (the complete first draft) of a YA novel in a fortnight, and fully planned (chapter by chapter) the five sequels.

It's been busy.

Another 500+ words on my novel! I figured it out and at this rate I'll be done in 30 days. Hmm maybe I can up my rate and be done even faster! emoticon

trying, that kind of thinking is a trap.

Stick to your 500 words (and more if you feel like it) for every day. Doing this kind of calculations will put pressure on and take out the fun.

Still - the way you're doing it is way to go! emoticon

1840 words last night completed a chapter. I'm going to sketch out the next chapter today and hopefully be ready to write it tonight. Or at least part of it.

I have misplaced my chapters-outline which sucks because it had all the major things I wanted to accomplish. Maybe I'll root around for it (could be on one of three computers, my PDA or in any of four or five notebooks or my binder -- I really need to consolidate and stick with one computer...)

Woohoo, great wordcount, Hadaad!

Good luck in finding your outline. I have a small binder on my desk where I put such things - and I try to keep my USB stick up to date with backups. Three computers sounds difficult, though.

Re: I Wrote Today!

The thing is this: I started writing this story back in 1994. The binder is full of the plans and such that I compiled all the way through the rest of high school and university (up to 2002).
I did some work on it on a computer I had for my last job which I burned to a CD when I left the company. I put all of that work onto a laptop that a friend gave me (p1 133, 12 mb ram). I got a new laptop last June which I've started migrating the stuff to (though it's slow-going). I'm typing out all of the stuff that is in the binder (character notes, setting stuff, plots and sequencing). There are three notebooks I've used for different purposes (back-story in the red notebook, country synopses in the blue notebook and snippets of writing in the purple LOTR notebook). One night, I sat with my PDA in my lap (I bought a full-sized keyboard for it that folds in half and stores conveniently) and planned out the rest of the chapters in part one. I put that either on the old laptop or the new laptop, I think. I hope, because the PDA has a cheap-o battery and loses all of its data if the battery runs dry. I'm pretty sure it's somewhere, though, so I just have to look.

What I really have to do is consolidate all of my stuff onto my new laptop but the old laptop's keyboard is so much better that I find myself writing all the new stuff on it, rather than on the new laptop and then having to monkey around trying to transfer the files. (the new laptop doesn't have a floppy drive) So I hook my PDA into the old laptop, take the files in there, which get converted to PDB format, and then hook my pda's memory stick into the new laptop (which has a handy-dandy card reader), put the file on my desktop and then run a conversion utility to get the text (which has now lost its formatting) into Word format. Then I re-format the file and all is well. Sort of.
All because the keyboard for the new laptop is substandard (which really isn't a problem for the most-part, because it's a Tablet and I do most things on it with the pen)

That is my long, sad tale.

Heh, poor Hadaad.

Maybe you could get a keyboard hooked up to your new laptop? It might also be easier to use a keydrive, USB stick or whatever you call those for the transfer. That way, your files shouldn't lose formatting.

Best of luck in finding that missing file. emoticon
