Shifted realities - Fantasy story
An interesting thought experiment which comes from a story I am writing.
Sheila can shift realities with her mind. In this story, she can see a cave that exists in the shifted reality and she can go in there. In the unshifted reality, there is no cave, just a big rock wall. People who touch her, e.g. on an arm, can also see the cave and go in there with her.
But what happens when they are in there and they stop touching her arm?

Re: Shifted realities - Fantasy story
Huh.
Very tricky question.
I can see two alternatives:
1) Sheila is the "transporter" and carries people through the shift into the new reality. Once there, they are free to act, but need Sheila to take them back to their original reality.
2) Sheila is the "shifter", so they need to cling to Sheila to stay in the "shifted reality", or normal reality snaps back for them.
Now which one causes the most problems?

Re: Shifted realities - Fantasy story
Very nice deductions!
1 is the easiest one, 2 is the very difficult one. I was leaning towards the second but... ouch... that makes things hard.
