Chapter titles

I'm one of those authors who likes to give a name to each chapter in their book. Unfortunately, I've run out of ideas for chapter titles for my story "Dragon Star - The Chronicles of Conterra: The Mystic Ranger". I'm looking for a title for chapter 11, so if you've got any ideas, please let me know. Shown below are the titles I've already used:

Chapter 1: 'Just Another Ordinary Day'
Chapter 2: 'Entering Conterra'
Chapter 3: 'Meet The Dragons'
Chapter 4: 'The Retrieval Begins'
Chapter 5: 'Another Aardrick Trip'
Chapter 6: 'Back To Mundus'
Chapter 7: 'The Revelation'
Chapter 8: 'Operation - Egg Recovery'
Chapter 9: 'The Encounter'
Chapter 10: 'Getting Wet In Wereld'

Re: Chapter titles

You know, chapter titles are totally optional. I don't use them in my writing. I just don't bother. I doubt readers notice them much.

Of course, if you can make them witty and entertaining, chapter titles are awesome.

Unfortunately, I can't give you a title for a chapter I know nothing about. What's happening in your story? Have you run out of ideas for your story?

Then daydream about your people and what obstacle they need to overcome to reach their goal. What is something they want and can't get - unless they overcome obstacles? That's what your story is about...

Happy plotting and writing!

Here are the storylines for each of the books in my 'Dragon Star: The Chronicles of Conterra' series:

Synopsis for ‘The Dragon’s Realm.’: Olivier Valmont and his sister, Aveline, live with their mother and step-dad in Patrie, a small town in southern France. One morning, whilst on their way to school, they stumble across a magic portal. They are transported to the strange world of Conterra where they meet Princess Patala and her pixie friend, Marni. This wonderful place is under attack from the evil Lord Lorcan who has trapped Conterra’s dragons by turning them into ice sculptures. Can Olivier and Aveline free the dragons and save Conterra before it’s too late?

Synopsis for ‘The Mystic Ranger.’: There are celebrations throughout Conterra. Lord Lorcan is gone, the dragons are free and King Alaric’s eldest daughter, Princess Murasaki, is getting married. But when dragon eggs suddenly start vanishing from their nests, the King must call upon a new Dragon Ranger to assist Olivier and Aveline in their search for the missing eggs. Is it possible that Lord Lorcan has returned?

Synopsis for ‘The Bronze Age.’: Princess Murasaki and her husband, Sir Carlin, are celebrating the birth of their son, Prince Errol, when the unthinkable happens: the baby is snatched by Lord Lorcan’s goons during a feast in honour of his birth. Can Olivier, Aveline, Frederika, and new Dragon Ranger, Ryker, rescue the little Prince before he’s subjected to the forces of evil?

Synopsis for ‘Silver Spell.’: It’s Princess Patala’s 18th birthday and the Dragon Rangers are invited to a party at the King’s palace. But when the Princess’s prized possession, a magic emerald necklace, is stolen, it’s up to Olivier, Aveline, Frederika, Ryker and new Dragon Ranger, Misora, to retrieve the necklace before its magic is used for evil rather than good.

Synopsis for ‘The Golden Era.’: Lord Lorcan knows his time is nearing an end. The oracle’s prophecy is almost complete! Only one more Dragon Ranger is needed to banish the evil Lord from Conterra forever. Who will be appointed the title of Gold Ranger?

Re: Chapter titles

Why not jump to titling from the last chapter up to chapter 11? Then, if you still have more chapters to add, you can renumber them. Meg Cabot made a video once where she stated that when she started writing a book, she knew a lot about the ending, a lot about the beginning, and a little about the middle ... and learned more during the writing process. Perhaps you are having a hard time with the middle because you don't know the ending yet? emoticon

Re: Chapter titles

Have you decided what genre these are, aside from fantasy?

They sound very much like childrens books or YA books, which does have implications for length, story arc and the way you tell the story.
