Marketing The Cloud Lands Saga

This is my biggest challenge.

I have rebranded the series this year, with new covers and a new interior design. I still find it very hard to market the series - basically I try to talk about the books on FB and Twitter, put them up on my blog and ... that's it.

I made a massive tactical mistake when I finished "Dorelle's Journey" at a size that's practically a long short story, barely a novella. That's how the story worked for me, but it means it's uneligable for many email marketers.

Which is even worse since it's the first book of the series and thus should be the one marketed first and foremost.

Eventually, I'll try making "Dorelle's Journey" free, hoping it'll funnel people into the series. Unfortunately, "free" is overworked, as it is. It still may be worth a try.

I'm also pushing my abilities with GIMP in order to create FB ads and memes for my series. At times, this is fun.

I know you said the series is complete but given the size of "Dorelle's Journey" may I suggest a prequel to the series? You could then deal with the "hints" that lead up to her journey and create a much more detailed kingdom setting and history of the land. The prequel would end on a false hope that comes to light "Dorelle's Journey."

I have a little story in the works about how Dorelle got to bond with Mashira, which is a tad unusual considering what I found out in Dragon Court (dragonriders being a bit of an aristocracy there).

That would make a perfectly free story to serve as intro into the series, and it would end on the assumption that Dorelle would be happy in the Fourth Blue wing with Ferren. (Which couldn't be further from the truth.)

Can add several flash fiction eBooks (5 FF per eBook / 2,500-word count), or several short story eBooks, or several vignette eBooks ... all based in that world.

[Edit]

Oooh. Can do a collection of Dribbles/Drabbles.

quote:

]WikiPedia: Flash Fiction

Flash fiction
is an umbrella term used to describe any fictional work of extreme brevity, including the Six-Word Story, 140-character stories, (also known as twitterature), the dribble (50 words), the drabble (100 words), and sudden fiction (750 words).

You can put the dribbles/drabbles on coffee mugs, and other small items. Ooh. On T-shirts, totes, etc.

Depending on which story is larger you could market the pair as a "buy this one and get this one free" on the e-book side. Or have one of those packages that wrap the two books together with a single price for both...

The very long-term plan is to create an "omnibus", ie. a complete one-book version of The Cloud Lands Saga to promote the second series set in the same world. And it would contain two extras: "Borderline", which is another short story set in the word published already in an anthology, plus probably "Dragon Girl" which is the aforementioned Dorelle story.

But only if I write that second series. emoticon
