I made a submission today
Today I took the plunge and submitted my first "Sylvia Rose" story to Daily Science Fiction. To do so I had to create an "author account" which was really easy then copy and paste the story into their "submission box" as plain text. I hope they like it ...

Re: I made a submission today
Thank you for the support. The story is 1,405 words long which is close to their limit and lessens the odds of acceptance but that's okay. I submitted it to see how easy the online submission process was and establish my "author account" with them for other stories later.

Re: I made a submission today
I am both nervous and excited at the same time. This week is the week that I should hear about my story submission. It would be awesome if they said yes on my B-Day!

Re: I made a submission today
DSF decided not to publish my first Sylvia Rose story. The good news on this is they did keep their word and let me know inside of the time frame they have posted.
Still waiting to see if they like the 2nd SR story or my "Heart of Oak" story. I just submitted the last story today after making some edits to the original text.

Re: I made a submission today
Ahhh, too bad.
Find the next market and submit.
Good luck with the second one.

Re: I made a submission today
Finding markets is hard! My 2nd SR story was rejected. So the only one out there right now is my SF short story.

Re: I made a submission today
Make sure you don't sell 'All Rights,' as they can keep it forever. Though most do revert the rights back to the author after a certain amount of time.

Re: I made a submission today
Rights grab is less intense for short stories. But yes, reading the contracts is important.
I'm no longer up to date, really, because I gave up submitting short stories a few years ago, but two good places to look for magazines to submit for were:
Duotrope.
Unfortunately, they moved to a subscriber model, which only pays if you produce lots of stories and can sell them easily. But they have a free trial, so that could be a good chance.
Spicy Green Iguana
Their website is down right now. Could be because of the recent hacks. Maybe they are out of business...

Re: I made a submission today
Another good site that actually lists payment structures etc. is
Ralan
Unfortunately, their website doesn't load at the moment, either.
Sadly, it seems that Spicy Green Iguana is defunct.

Re: I made a submission today
I sent a manuscript to a publisher once (can't remember which story it was). I never heard anything back.
