Re: Contemplations

For "Transit Promises" April was a miserable month. I added 973 words to the story over the course of a month.

I managed to do more in "Beyond The Window" where I added 1,217 words.

Incursion, the working title for my urban paranormal story saw some more planning and a bit of plot-work, but I haven't put anything on paper (so to speak).

My research on "Broken" (a Christian non-fiction work) is progressing through Genesis at a snail's pace.

True, but the pace doesn't feel right. I am confident I can do better if I can nail down the correct time-slots for each activity.

Not sure if this is the thing you need, but thought I'd share just in case it is.

I didn't stop working on "Incursions" though if you look at the postings, it seems as though I did. The scene that has me stuck is the work of a perverted and evil mind (the villain's, not me). I have been working on other characters in the story and how they will fit in.

I'm confident you can do this. It may need more practice in other stories, or some insight for the best solution - but this is a classic problem in story-telling and creation.

It will work out! emoticon

End of May (observations)

"Beyond the Window" comes in as a solid YA story (if I can keep it there).

My other stories are situated almost dead center in the "avg literacy level" for US readers.

The most interesting observation is the reading level difference between my Sci-Fi and Paranormal-murder mystery stories. The SF story requires a slightly higher literacy rate putting it close to the upper limit. The Mystery is coming in roughly half a grade level less complicated.

Maybe that's not really a surprise. For SF, you need more technical terms than for a mystery, and that might well add a grade to the reading level.

Just thinking...

Re: Contemplations

I kept close to the old Runboard wiki format style for the first of my two "test postings" on the Concepts RB-Handbook project. This morning I copied over the third (dealing with the User Control Panel). I don't know why, but the RBKB format isn't visually appealing to me. It's clean enough, but I get a sense of melancholy which is somehow disturbing. I am hopeful that the general layout and style choices will give off a sense of energy and fun. Hehe, I want to ramble on about the project, but I suspect the reason for it is the newness behind "Concepts" creation.

I agree that "tone" and "atmosphere" are very important for making a system appealing or not.
