TV and historical symbols

I was wondering... Today I saw a new TV show called "Timeless" and in this episode, they travel to WWII Nazi Germany. Anyway, is it legal in Germany to use those symbols in TV shows? If not then does that mean the TV show is banned or do they do something else? Just a curiosity question...

Re: TV and historical symbols

Well, it depends.

Of course, the symbols can be used in documentaries. Maybe even in TV shows - but I'm not sure. It is possible that an episode gets banned. There is a Star Trek episode that was banned until about 1995 in German TV, which displays Nazi symbols.

They are definitely not allowed in everday life, and there is a fine for showing that Hitler greeting as well as denying the Holocaust, but of course, we don't do searches for them in apartments and houses.

If, on the other hand, Nazi symbols are found during a search, that doesn't exactly throw a good light on those living there.

And I actually found a translation of our law regarding Nazi symbols:

]Strafgesetzbuch section 86a
