I don't rely on Hemingway. But the program does highlight areas in a manner I wouldn't do on my own. So what I am doing is looking at those highlighted areas to see why it thinks there is a problem. Most of the time there isn't anything significant, but twice I have discovered areas that could be smoothed out and presented better.

I finished my first round edit on "First Transit" Chapter One. I placed the Chapter Two marker in the November post, so I know where I am when I start tomorrows editing session.

Discovered an omission in my Story Bible that is relevant to Transit Promises so I fixed that.

I edited five paragraphs before going to work. The most significant correction was a gender tense correction. I know Angeni appreciates the change from a guy back to a gal. emoticon

Technically I finished editing chapter 2 before heading out today. Three of the paragraphs were okay the way I wrote them initially, and two were a mess. By that I mean I had sentences that were half the size of the paragraph! Breaking up those monster sentences said that I had to do some rewording. This process was good because I found incomplete thoughts hidden inside of the monsters, so I finished out (or eliminated) the problem spots.

This morning before work I edited 23 paragraphs in chapter 3. I think I missed a chapter break, but I am not sure. I'll be thinking about that all day now. emoticon

I edited five paragraphs of chapter 5 in "First Transit" this morning. So far, this scene is way more comfortable than what chapter 4 was to work with. emoticon

I finished first round editing on Chapter 5 this morning. I eliminated some "info-dumping" and added some additional dialogue. I also changed up the wording between Leonard and Julianne to get in their favorite terms of endearment with each other. emoticon

I'm realizing I forgot scenes and a cat in my NaNo story. Now I'm making up for that and sticking notes into my text to remind me of it when I edit.

I finished my "first edit" in my November 2016 post this morning. I am somewhere inside of chapter 6 as a start the "first edit" on the December 2016 post.

Total changes in the November post totaled close to two thousand! I understand why people say the "first draft" won't look much like the "finished draft" now. emoticon

I edited seven paragraphs today. I am adding dialogue, so the characters are more involved with sharing information in the story.

Going through my December post I added a bit to the circumstances of Kelly's death, Samantha misses death by mere seconds. Cindy discovers she is all alone in medical dispatch response. Henry shows he can be a hero when he doesn't stop to think about it. Crisis events are so much fun! emoticon

The odd thing is I thought I had that scene settled until I started writing the sequel. That's when I discovered that Kelly had died a hero's death!

Writing the Konrad sequel, I finally figured out why the "demons" were trying so hard to reach Earth... it never ocurred to me to question that before.

I love how my worlds grow with the stories I tell in them.

Revealing process. emoticon

I am gearing my first round editing towards scene and character clarification. Long sentences and paragraphs hide things from readers that are obvious to me. I also see some of the tense changes and fix those. Trying can tell you I miss many of those errors. Hey! I am getting better. emoticon

Dialogue helps and I keep adding bits and pieces as I move along. The cool part is the dialogue changes infodumps into story and character development.

I understand why a first draft is critical to the story even if it looks terrible at first.

And... this is your very first first draft, don't forget this.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

You're learning so much in this process that your next first draft will already be a lot better, leaving you with less to edit.

It's a process... you're doing very, very well!
