The Freelancer's Survival Guide - Kris Rusch

I found this yesterday after writing up a blog post about the freelancer mindset for writers. Because that's what indie authors are, especially if selling books is their only income stream.

Kris' blog has always been an amazing resource, but now she put together a huge guide. It's also available as book.

]The Freelancer's Surivival Guide

I'm definitely going to work through this one entry at a time.

Re: The Freelancer's Survival Guide - Kris Rusch

I'm reading through this, just as I said, and the one part I just read is hitting me very hard.

The topic is "Discipline".

And it hits, because I always thought that one needs tons of discipline to be a successful writer (and freelancer) and that I lack them.

Well, turns out that Kris is not exactly the queen of discipline, either. She says it's this:

quote:

It’s not discipline. It’s figuring out how to get yourself to work.

And I love it. I totally love it. Because it turns the fight against yourself into looking for love.

That's what I can do. I can find the love in things to do. And then I do them.
