Argumenitive Writing

OK so I thought a good practice for writing could be that we take turns posting a topic (not something political or about religious) and write an argumentative paragraph about which side you think is right.

Example: There are two kids. They are arguing about if it is OK to share your opinion on things. One kid says it is good; the other says it's rude. Who do you think is right?

Hope I did this right?! emoticon

Re: Pick a Side

It's good. emoticon

What this sparked is the following: First write position one (from that kid's perspective) and then position two (from the other kid's perspective).

This teaches a writer to jump into other people's shoes and be flexible. (And you really, really need this ability to create believable antagonists.)

Re: Pick a Side

Kid 1: Sharing your opinion is good. It helps people improve on their work and if something looks terrible the person who made it should know.

Kid 2: Sharing your opinion is rude. It will likely hurt someone's feelings and possibly make them annoyed at you. Besides, maybe the person you are giving your opinion to has different taste than you.

And then someone else can do the same and pick a new one emoticon
