Authors and Social Media

This is a never-ending topic.

Because we authors want and crave reach. We want to tell people about our great new book, we want readers - and starting out it's dang difficult to become visible.

So yes, I've seen authors do that "buy my book!" stuff on Twitter and FB (I know one author who has automated a dlozen of such posts on Twitter, and they go out every single fricking day!).

And of course I talk about my books in my social media, but I really try to make it into something interesting and fun, rather than a blatant "CLICK THIS LINK" thing.

Anyway, in this thread, I'm going to collect articles and blog posts about social media and how we as authors can make good and ehtical use of them.

Here's the first one, by Anne R. Allan:

]How NOT to Sell Books: Top 10 Social Media Marketing No-Nos for Authors

I think that even though it's a long article, it's really bringing home the point that social media are, well, social. And it takes time to build a fan base...

I hope to see you on FB, Twitter and G+! emoticon

I so agree. If you want to make yourself angry, look at all posts that the game show "Wipeout" makes. They all are exactly alike: "VOTE FOR US IN THE KIDS CHOICE AWARDS". Makes me mad emoticon

I know it's a weird thing to get app worked up about but it annoys me emoticon

Oh, yes! The "vote for me" thing is also very annoying. emoticon

I'll do my best to add more resources here. I really think that using Social Media is a skill that can be learned and used to connect with people, rather than firehose them with ads.
