Dorelle's Journey - is live now!

And yes, I'm biased, but I think the cover totally rocks.

Here is the preorder link: ]Dorelle's Journey

And just a tip: If you buy the print book - which will be available on Feb. 24th - you will get the ebook for free. My appreciation for my fans.

Re: Dorelle's Journey up for preorder

I changed the description of the book, from stark two paragraphs to something with a bit of background:

quote:

For centuries, there has been war between the Western Kingdom and the Carmine Empire. Mostly, it has been a slow, simmering war of aerial skirmishes and secret missions. The Barrier Mountains, a massive mountain range straddling the continent, have kept the factions apart. Even so, each realm is maintaining an army of dragons, as well as a close watch on the border.

Dorelle has been training with her very own dragon, Mashira, to become a part of the Skyforce. Contrary to her commanding officer, she thinks of Mashira as an intelligent partner, not a beast to be controlled rigidly. When her conviction spurs her into action, her Wing Commander is not amused and threatens to have Mashira killed. Dorelle chooses her dragon's life over everything she holds dear: Her career, her family and her King.

She embarks on a dangerous journey and discovers a completely new world. But when she also discovers a new, terrible threat to her Kingdom, she doesn't hesitate to risk everything to take back the news.

Can she deliver the warning and save her Kingdom, even as she and her dragon are facing certain death?

This is the first book of The Cloud Lands Saga, which will eventually consist of eight tales.

I believe it's much more inviting...

It looks great, I could not find a link to get a printed version though. Is that something you get to do after buying the e-book?

I think she plans on putting out the paperback shortly. eBook versions are usually easier/faster to put out than print. From what I've read at CreateSpace, the author has to buy a book to check it out to make sure it is all formatted correctly. They then have to buy another book with each correction they make to the formatting, until they have it just right. So, it can take a while. Depending on how new/experienced the author is, that is.

Rick: Print will be available in February, as well. In fact, you'll get the ebook for free if you buy the print.

 emoticon

And no, I don't buy a book from CS to check it. With shipping and all, that's way too expensive and time consumig. I use their online checker, plus my formatting people are so experienced that the books look great.

There was a glitch with "Here be Dragons", which I was able to fix once be re-uploading. Then I had to update something in the book, uploaded the PDF again, and the glitch returned. Their tech people fixed it after I sent them email.

People who create their own PDF for the print really should buy a proof copy and check it. I really rely on my formatting people, through.

It only comes up after uploading a file, obviously. I'm not sure if they talk about it on their site.

I just go there to upload files and set up the distribution. emoticon

My information came from V J Chambers years ago when she was starting out. She mentioned having to buy a book after each upload and change. It's good to know you don't have to though. If you have to make a lot of corrections, it could get expensive to keep buying the latest copy.

Oh, yes.

They still suggest buying a copy - as that is obviously the real proof. And I do buy print copies through Amazon, simply because I'm under obligation to send some to our National Library, as well as having a few fans who want signed copies.

And since Amazon doesn't charge shipping for books, that's easy and fast. They print in Germany, something that CreateSpace won't do. They insist on printing in the US and sending the books across the Atlantic, which is slow and expensive.

I've told them that there are better ways for an international company, but their answer was that they had always printed in the US. *sigh*

I'm sure they would change their tune if they had more out of country authors. emoticon They might not have enough yet to see their way to changing how they now do it. Maybe when that happens, they'll set up a CreateSpace for other countries, as Amazon does. One can only hope.

It would be easy, even if they just stay [sign in to see URL].

Amazon is already sending the exact same files to printers all over the world. There are no quality issues. All CS would have to do is to ask Amazon to give them that list.

Okay, and then they'd have to set up shipping. But I'm sure the printers would help them do that, as they would be eager for the business.

Or CS could let Amazon handle the whole thing for international customers.

Hi Clandeshar, welcome on board!

Well, this is a series planned for eight novellas.

#1, Dorelle's Journey, is on preorder, as you know.
#2, Kraken War, is with the formatting people, and will be released as soon as possible.
#3, Dragon Court, is half written.
#4, Betrayal, is mostly plotted.

Those four volumes would make a great collection, but I honestly won't expect that before year's end. I very much hope it can be ready for Christmas.

The next four novellas take place 50 years after the first set. You'll meet Dorelle's granddaughter and people from all realms. emoticon I have basica ideas about the plots of each of them, and they will become a second collection - hopefully in 2016.

That's what happens when my brain takes off and runs with an idea.

Actually, it started out as a full-out novel, with three plotlines and some vague notions about dragon slavery and such... and it stalled.

The whole thing only came back to life when I took the three plotlines apart and let them sit a bit longer. And then... Dorelle said "hi". Ahem.

At the beginning, I just knew she'd run into trouble and desert. And that for some reason she'd come back. Then the rescue came to me ... I'm a romantic at heart.

The whole story usually only comes together when I write it. That's the part that actually *keeps* me writing. The adventure of discovery.

So yesterday was the official release day. emoticon

Everyone who had pre-ordered it received it on Kindle or their device with the Kindle App.

I sold 16 copies on pre-order.
Then I sold another five during the day.
That 21 total so far.
And this morning, I found my first KU borrow.

Now borrows are really nice because Amazon pays authors (and publishers) for borrows. For each borrow, they shell out a fixed amount, regardless of the price of the ebook. The result is that any book priced [sign in to see URL] or lower actually earns more on Kindle Unlimited than through an all out buy.

The best news is that for the first time ever I sold copies in Australia.

Sold three more, two in the US, one in Germany (and a colleague just confessed it was her!).

And the first review is in. *happy dance*

Hannah Steenbock is an amazing writer. You fall into her story with your very being. Wanting nothing more than to see what is going to happen again. She takes you away from anything you know, and brings to you the amazing lands, peoples and stories of another place, and [sign in to see URL] yet they seem so perfectly real. This is the mark of an talented and wondrous weaver of tales. Dorelle, is a woman of strength and courage, yet gentle and caring. Someone we only wish truly existed in this world. Hannah's tales are not so long as to bore you, but long enough to draw you into that world. And her endings will never leave you feeling gypped or sad. One incredible weaver of tales, I can barely wait for the next installment of this saga.
