Love to hear about your cows! Snickers sounds like a fun friend. Glad she's listening to you! (Maybe you can teach her to let you rider her? I've seen stories like that.)

Well, I usually edit as I write, at least a little. The worst part of editing is changing scenes, I hate that. If I have to change plot, that's really, really hard. Just fixing sentences is easy.

I guess I just deal with the contests. I'll probably even forget about them. emoticon

My Goodreads Giveaway is in its last minutes. Almost 1500 people signed up for it. It's beyond awesome. The books should arrive today, and I may have to buy envelopes - I have used ones, so maybe that'll be enough. And then I'll send them off tomorrow or Wednesday. Will take pics, because - as I'm learning - all that stuff is perfect marketing material.

Fun times. emoticon

Re: 2015 Chat

Well that took way longer then I expected! My main laptop died so I was just going to connect my old writing one to the internet. Instead I dug and planted the potato patch for four days wearing me right out, then a big fire broke out near us and we spent a week packing like maniacs and worrying. Thankfully it only came within ten miles of us, poor Dad worked twelve days straight then had an overnight shift.
As soon as the fire was out we had to scramble to get a place ready for the chicks which arrived on the second. I finally was able to fiddle with my laptop but it'd been ten years since it had been connected to the intetnet and has updaying for days. While I've been waiting we've been planting the rest of the garden and laying waterlines so we can water the garden and not have to haul water to the animals.
So yeah I'm tired and still stressed over fires. It's very hot and dry and we keep getting lightning storms in the afternoon. Having been hit three times in sixteen years... There's fifty fires raging in the Province already, none near us anymore, but the smoke rolls in every evening and you wake up with a sore throat.

But looking on the bright side the animals are doing great and staying where we fenced earlier this year and the garden is sprouting already plus the new pump gives enough water pressure that we have a sprinkler watering it.

So glad to hear about Kraken War, Firle. I hope it does well for you!
Yes we probably could train Snickers for riding but being a Dexter she probably will only get three feet high. Our first Cow was a Jersey and us kids would lay on her back while she walked around the field. If you were too far forward when she put her head down to graze you'd slide down her neck. She'd eye ball you and you could almost hear her thinking, Humans are crazy! Man I miss her.
Well I guess I better go I think Mom headed out to the garden. I hope your writing and editing are going good and talk to you soon!

Wow, lots of news!

I'm sorry your computer died and your laptop took so long to become useful. But you have been incredibly busy, too! Of course, that's spring for a farmer.

Very glad the fires didn't reach you. I hope you'll get some rain soon to put them out and reduce the drought. It's scare to smell smoke all the time.

Water lines are good! So glad you no longer have to haul water for the animals. How are the dogs doing, protecting the sheep? And your bottle babies, are they doing well?

Love the image of your Jersey cow. I've petted a Jersey once, they are beautiful and gentle. Would love to own one - probably not this life, though. I bet yours loved you as kids. You must have been strange calves, though. emoticon

I'm in the final edits for "Dragon Court", the sequel to "Kraken War". Sales are slow for that one... I'm still promoting "Dorelle's Journey", as that's the entry story.

*sending lots of hugs* emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi, everyone!

Yes, Spring can be quite crazy some years. But I love getting out in the fresh air and doing things. We've had a week of cooler/rainy weather and the winds have changed so no new fires and the smoke has faded. Still getting thunder and lightning storms most nights though.
We only have one tiny bed left to plant in the garden, woohoo, We probably would have finished last Friday but a big storm rolled in and we ran and hid inside. emoticon Planting took longer this year because we mulched as we went to make sure it got done and 9000sq feet takes a lot of mulch! On the 17th it frosted and knocked the potatoes back and they had been looking so lovely. emoticon

Yeah one of the nice things about summer is not having to haul water everywhere, although it helps keep you in shape over winter, hee hee. The dogs are still doing good, they love this cooler weather and go lay in the field with the sheep. When it's hot they hang back under the spruce trees and only wander out now and then. The bottle babies are all grown up! Well except for Doodles, he still eats a bit of a bottle. He is little and pops through the fences and if I'm out he'll trail me around. The others mostly ignore me now, that's gratitude for you! emoticon

Yeah Jerseys are so pretty. For whatever reason our grass didn't seem to give them the nutrition they needed otherwise we'd still raise them. The cows are gentle but the bulls are... nasty. We only had one bull calf from them and he was named the Brat.
Moosie absolutely adored humans and loved being milked. When we would dry her up for the season she would sulk and seemed to think it meant we didn't love her anymore. Ha ha ha! Yeah I'm sure they thought we were strange calves! She certainly didn't hesitate to bonk you with her head if you weren't doing what she wanted.

I was hoping to help you Dragon Court. emoticon I guess these things happen. I hope the sales pick up! I suppose as you get more stories out there it should draw in more people. Happy Writing! emoticon

Trying, you can still help me with Dragon Court! I'm awaiting feedback from beta readers. I'll send it to you, I think I have your email.

 emoticon emoticon emoticon

I didn't know that Jersey bulls were nasty. Uh oh. But I'm glad you enjoyed Moosie. How funny that she hated drying up.

I'm also very happy to hear that the bottle babies have grown up nicely. And I suppose it's healthy that they integrate into the herd... but I'm also sure it stings that they ignore you. Glad that at least Doodles is still faithful! emoticon

Sorry to hear about your potatoes. Here in Germany, we never plant earlier than late May because that's usually when we have the last frost. But this year, there was frost in some regions last week! That would have killed the potatoes, too...

I really wish you all the best for the garden. That's a huge one, and I hope mulching will make it so much easier in the long run. We used to mulch with grass clippings... maybe we should have gotten a goat or two instead. emoticon

Yesterday, I finally got into writing "Betrayal", part 4 of the Cloud Lands. Betrayal happens on all levels in that book, some of it with dire consequences. But there is also love and healing. emoticon

Re: 2015 Chat

I just realized I wrote over 13k last week. That's what I put into a little story I started last Tuesday, plus I wrote a bit more in Betrayal and another story.

Fun times. I love it when the writing bug hits. emoticon

That new stuff... that'll take a while before it goes public. I don't want to send it to my formatters, so I'll have to figure out formatting myself. And find some simple covers. (For Romance that's fairly heavy on the sex... ahem. Totally new stuff for me.)

The plan is to write up a bunch of those short stories - that's what they technically are - and then release them one after the other every two or three weeks, to create momentum for that new pen name. So it probably won't happen until next year.

It's fun to know I have the freedom to do this. Write what's fun and enjoyable to me, and then just see if I can market it well. No pressure. Just ... having fun.

Re: 2015 Chat

Writing lots and lots these days. Stories are clobbering me and vying for attention.

The only problem is actually finishing them, getting them edited and published.

Working on three contemporary Romance stories (with sex), so I can get those up quickly one after the other, with a new pen name. Two are done, the third is growing in my mind, but all need beta-reading and editing. (And eventually formatting and a cover...)

Was hit over the head with a highly erotic SF Romance trilogy. That is a very narrow market, so I'm happy about that. Have to write it, and get it published, though.

Btw, the sex I write is clean. No pron words for my stories. Hope there is a market for it.

Also on a deadline for two dragon stories - mid September. One has beta-reader feedback which I need go through and incorporate. The other needs a beta reader, but it's short, less than [sign in to see URL] words.

Phew. I am busy, and writing happily. emoticon

I put in 25k words last week. That's fairly insane.

I doubt I can keep up that pace, but that new story has sucked me in so much that I can hardly think of anything else.

However, I am looking for beta-readers for a dragon short. Let me know if you're interested.

Hi Brian! Good to see you here, thank you for saying 'hi'!

 emoticon

My SF Romance is growing - actually growing into part 2. I just realized it this morning. Well, I always knew there would be a part 2, the whole concept is for three books. But I overwrote, and I'm already in part 2.

So I'll create a new file, put the words in there that belong there, and go back to edit part 1.

I am so happy that I'm back in writing. I have so many plans, and if things go well, I'll self-publish up to six books under a new pen name next year, aside from the dragon series that I'll keep creating under Hannah Steenbock.

Life is awesome. And it would be even more awesome if I had a few coaching clients... emoticon

Sorry for disappearing! First there was my sister's wedding and all the company for it, then my cousin's wedding and all the company for it. emoticon Then we looked around and thought wow there's no hay! So I scythed extra grass, I was already scything the sheep's food, and cut almost enough to feed one cow and her calf. Then we cut branch and leaf bundles and luckily found some actual hay bales so may make it to spring. *Fingers crossed* But only because we had a late fall and I was able to keep scything well into October. I was so tired and stressed I would be eating lunch and wake up with a bite of food in my mouth. emoticon Oh and around my sister's wedding one of the ewes popped out a surprise set of triplets so I got another bottle baby and she was so sweet and loving and my baby then when she was a couple months old a bear got her. Wah!! emoticon
Then right after the holidays we started lambing again. Thankfully most of the ewes have enough milk so we only have two bottle babies. I was looking after them but finally told my sister, they're your ewe's you get up at two in the morning and look after them. I still had to wake up enough to get her up but fell right back to sleep. emoticon
And now we're trying to butcher all the extra animals so we have enough feed for the rest. Sigh, I hope this spring and summer are easier!
So yeah, that was why I disappeared. I hope you all are doing good and having fun with your writing! emoticon

Oh, wow. You HAVE been busy! And it's good to see you!

My writing went quite well until Christmas, and then it died. I haven't been able to get it back just yet, but I have a book due, and will make it somehow.

I also want to publish my naughty stuff. Trying to find beta-readers for that, but it's more difficult. I suppose I'm not asking in the right places.
