Absolutely bogus! Wow, people think up some strange things to convince each other of, don't they?

They totally do.

And it's all an attempt to "belong" and to feel special.

I have read some really ridiculous "rules" on the internet. Most of which conflict with each other.

The only rule that applies is, write. Just write.

I think "write what you love" is a good one. Because that love shows in the story.

And then, edit, and publish. emoticon

Write what you love, edit until you bleed from it, then publish.

Did you ever read "Write, Publish, Repeat"? It's quite a fascinating book.

Some of those were funny! I heard the 'was' rule when I was (emoticon) just starting out and when through and tried to change them all... I finally figured out that it doesn't apply all the time.

In my writing class we had to write about mountain-biking which is kind of random and, even worse, we had to write it twice emoticon

Anyway, my writing teacher said "Reading all of these papers, I can tell none of you care about mountain-biking". So yep if you write about something you love (for me maybe Takeshi's Castle) it is great, if you write about something you dislike (for me maybe sleeping) the story sounds bad (usually).

Well, at least that writing teacher realized what he/she had done.

And it's awesome that you are taking a writing class!!

Whoops, I'm not clear:

I have taken writing classes but this was one I had to take at school so I didn't choose it.

My writing teacher did not assign this, the county did. I think that might only make sense to those who live in America? emoticon

Anyway sorry about that.

Ah, I see...

Well, one trick of being a writer is the ability to find something interesting in any given topic. Or maybe that's for bloggers... but I think it is a nice experiment in thinking, at any rate.
