MUST READ blogpost about indie writers quitting their jobs

I have linked to The Passive Guy before, but this is so awesome and inspiring that you must read it. Seriously! It's making me want to open my file and get writing this minute.

]Indie Authors Quitting their Day Jobs

Go there. And every time you're depressed about your writing, read through all those lovely comments again. And again.

But I don't wanna quit my day job, I like farming. emoticon How lucky for me that I can do both. emoticon
It's so awesome that so many people can make their living off of writing. I wonder how many could have if they'd gone with traditional publishing?

Probably a lot less, especially now. Trad publishers are reducing advances, reducing their marketing ... many trad published authors are struggling. (I know a few.)

Some trad published authors are fighting to get their rights back, and then put their backlist up on their own - and I know at least one writer who stays afloat that way.

Problem is, as soon as a publisher gets electronic rights, those books never go out of print (how could they?), and thus rights never revert to the author, at least if they are still using the same contracts. Many well-known older authors have signed such contracts and are being ripped off with ebook royalties...
