Publication Path of "Dorelle's Journey"

Just finished the first draft!

And I already know what to change: I'll rewrite the end, turning it into an entire new scene.

This takes "Dorelle's Journey" firmly into novella size, but I don't care. This is the first book of my dragon series (which I thought would be a novel, but which is shifting into serialization, because that's the latest trend).

I'm excited about this. Feedback from my first beta-reader indicted that it's a solid story. Can't wait to keep going with the next installment, so I can push them out close together.

Here's to builing out book empires! emoticon

Wordpad is really bad. The rtf files it creates are often corrupted and unreadable by other programs. (I could open yours, yay.)

Open Office / Libre Office are free. They have PDF converters included, and create much cleaner files that MS Office. So if you can, get one of them. They'll make your writing much easier.

Ooops. I made more room. Sorry for that. emoticon

I'll send a LibreOffice file. Love the "track changes" function for any corrections.

Today, feeling lazy and idle, I created a map for the story (and those to follow). It's so much easier to stay true to geography with a map.

Here it is:

I documented all stages and plan to create a little guide to mapmaking. emoticon

Re: Publication Path of "Dorelle's Journey"

Well, "Dorelle's Journey" was finally released in February of 2015. My formatting people had really rough year, which delayed everything.

We did a preorder through Amazon which started in January, and went on until Feb, 24th. I sold over 20 copies through the preorder and the first day.

All in all, I have sold a licttle more 30 copies so far. Nope, not making back the money I invested for the graphics and formatting, which is a little sad.

Now, "Dorelle's Journey" is a very important book for me.

It's the first in a large novella series. And every time I have a new release, I will promote "Dorelle's Jourey", so people start the series from the beginning. I may actually make it permafree once I have all books published, just to make it really easy for people to try out the series.

The first sequel - "Kraken War" - is scheduled for a May release. Preorders will probably begin in April. Which is why I scheduled a Goodreads Giveaway for "Dorelle's Journey" yesterday, to raise awareness and promote. That should start on April 27th.

I will certainly talk more about that later. This is just so you can follow what I'm doing with this book.

At any rate, this is exciting. I'm certainly feeling much more like a pro-author who actually invests in marketing and promotions.

Re: Publication Path of "Dorelle's Journey"

The series isn't really doing that well. I'm stuck on the fourth and final novella.

So I'm trying to come up with some ads. It's a little tricky since I have no training at all in graphics work. But I think I'm getting better. Shooting my own background pics, too.

This is my current WIP:
