Travel times in the US in the 1800s
Ran across this on the web (thanks to Judy Tarr), and I thought I'd share it here. This is travel time by rail (and probably other methods), but it still seems a very useful tool to have. It is amazing how much we are accustomed to fast travel and fast good delivery.
It now takes less time for people and goods to travel from New York to London or Berlin than it took to get from New York to ... let's say Connecticut in 1800. The difference in scale is almost incompehensible.
Anyway, here goes:
How fast could you travel across the U.S. in the 1800s?
