Terra Nova

Has anybody seen this mind-bogglingly stupid new television programme?

The premise: a portal is opened 85 million years into the past, for people to escape the over-polluted, washed-up 22nd-century Earth. (Like the Saga of the Exiles, but with dinosaurs.)

One example (of many) of the utter stupidity in this programme:

In their prehistoric camp, they have a rusty old probe set on a pedestal.

"Look, it's the original probe they sent back through the time portal! When they didn't find its 85-million-year-old remains in the future, that's how the scientists in the future knew that this was an alternate time line so it was safe to send people back without affecting history!"

What??? emoticon

Ok, my time probe hasn't turned up after 85 million years. Possible explanations:

1) It popped out in a pool of lava
2) The batteries ran out
3) We haven't looked in the right place yet (!)
4) It's not really a time portal, it's just desintegrating things!!!
5) 85 million years??? Are you kidding???
6) I mean, seriously, the continents aren't even in the same place
7) You seriously expect it to be found 85 million years later???????
8) Hey, maybe it's in an alternate timeline, that's why we can't find it!

Now, let me think.... which option shall I choose.... Alternate Timeline!!!! Got to be!!!!

 emoticon

No, sorry, it's not even funny. It's too stupid to be funny emoticon

Next rant: the utterly stupid politics of supply and demand in Terra Nova!

But, hey, it's got dinosaurs emoticon

Re: Terra Nova

imho It would be much more interesting if the portal took them to a totally new, but habitable planet. No worries then of messing things up and the new planet could have anything they wanted it to have... *sigh*

My wife loves the show though so watch it I must. emoticon

I was actually voting for:

9) In 85 million years, it just rusted/fell apart and is now ten zillion tiny pieces, none of which look anything like the original probe.

And yeah, I heard about the show, but didn't see it. And won't, given that you just confirmed my original thoughts about it!!

I guess this happens when people are insufficiently knowledgeable of the relevant parts of physics.
