Writing Tricks from a Writer
Just found this blog post about writing tricks. I liked it, so maybe it's helpful for you, as well.
Stupid Writer Tricks (may contain strong language)
Have fun, and happy writing!

Re: Writing Tricks from a Writer
Not sure I really learned anything new from this, though I use a couple of the "tricks" already and have been for years. But this is almost worth reading just for the writing style. The author is... well, "crazy" comes to mind immediately! Very loose and string-of-consciousness-sounding, but without ever losing the deeper train of thought that he's going for.
I sort of wish he'd try writing a textbook. Possibly with a few fewer monkeys.

Yeah, he's quite different from most bloggers.

Re: Writing Tricks from a Writer
I wasn't quite sure how to take this at first. Was he serious???!?!?!!
But I'm a big fan of some of the things he suggested (my latest work was largely written while drinking), (and finishing an evening's writing with something to be pumped about the next day).

Re: Writing Tricks from a Writer
Actually, my favorite trick is still "Read It Aloud". I can't tell you how many high school writers I've suggested that to. Apparently it's something that doesn't seem very "cool", though. Which is silly, since unlike most other editing tricks, it actually WORKS.
Really. If what a character says sounds stupid when you read it like a play, it's probably a bad line of dialogue. So just fix it, okay? Who cares if YOU look stupid reading your own story aloud, when it makes your villain sound less like a blubbering idiot?

Re: Writing Tricks from a Writer
Guess that's pretty good advice Reythia, even if it does make you feel silly.

Re: Writing Tricks from a Writer
Oh, as long as you do it in private, you don't feel too silly, either. Now, I don't think I'd want to try it in a public library or something...
