Less scarring in future medicine

An interesting breakthrough in identifying the reasons for scarring seems to have turned up a new way scarring occurs via the breaking in to small pieces of a common sugar. By suppressing the break up of this sugar thus scar tissue formation is greatly reduced and up till now no disadvantages have been seen, so if this passes the various tests in medicine we might have less scar tissue in the future. And hopefully this will be a step towards the future where we are promised scarless healing. emoticon

I find it really interesting that preventing the fast closure of the injury and blocking immune cells doesn't increase infection rates. Really odd.

I think it's really interesting how the body balances two different needs: Fast healing vs. structural healing.

Today, we can shift the balance towards good healing because we have better medizine. emoticon

I'm sure that's a big part of why it's possible. But even with good sanitation, you'd think a larger percentage of (clean) wounds with slow healing would get infected, compared to equally-clean, fast-healing wounds.

Possibly Reythia, though perhaps the percentage is small enough that it doesn't show up in current sample sizes. Evolution will move to a new system at fairly small advantages after all.

Yeah, the sample size is a common problem in medical and (even worse) psychological tests. If you're only testing a hundred (or a dozen -- *shiver*) people, you're just not going to get the full range of effects.
