Something completely different...

A while ago I was asked to contribute a "fanzine" to a collection published by fans of a (fairly obscure) comic called The Legion of Super-Heroes.

Writing a fanzine sounded geeky enough, writing it for comics fans sounded even worse, writing it about an obscure comic with a fanatical cult following sounded......

Well, too geeky to possibly pass up on emoticon

I've never done anything like it before so I didn't really know what to write. But I wrote four pages over a couple of days, sent it off, and this week the compiled publication (200+ pages) arrived in the post with my contribution somewhere near the front. Cool!

I can't imagine the subject being of interest to anyone here, but I've put a copy of my section on line if you want to see:

http://www.heroes.force9.co.uk/legion/issue-1.pdf

They do this every two months, so I've already started work on my next one emoticon

Very cool! Congrats, David!

Edited to say: Your writing reads very well, and even I, who has not read a single issue of the Legion, was interested enough to read it all. That's good writing!

I've never read the Legion either and you made me want to pick up a copy. Well done! emoticon

Okay, Meadows. I didn't read the actual review in there (since I've never read the comic, it seemed sort of silly to read a review of it!), but I read the whole 2.5-page introduction. And I just have to say that now you REALLY have to pick up that book of short stories by George RR Martin that I mentioned in the other thread. Dear God, do the two of you sound alike when talking about even vaguely similar topics!!

Also, congrats on getting to write such a wonderfully geeky thing! emoticon And nice job doing so, of course.

Yes! One of my very favorite and often maligned comic book series. Not obscure to me at all though tracking down the appearances of the Legion each month was a major chore.

If you want to use the actual Interlac font for anything it can be found as a ttf and postscript font here. emoticon

Very cool article as well. Congratulations.

Thanks, Rick. I'm surprised and delighted to find you are actually a Legion fan! You are a man of many mysteries emoticon

I have a copy of the Interlac font but I'll try the one you linked to to see if it's a better version. The one I have has some kind of bug which means it won't appear properly in PDFs... I had to jump through considerable hoops to make it work in my article!

I started reading them back when they were just a club with 3 hero's backed by a billionaire. emoticon I even remember when they got their clubhouse (the one that looked like a V2 rocket buried nose first in the ground). emoticon
