Rick, it's wonderful you're putting in words regularly. That's in fact, all you need to keep going.

You're an ace of a writer! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I think it is more a case of her getting it done while I am just observing emoticon

I don't think the story would have developed along these lines if Firle had not of posted that bridge pic. I ended up with over 5,000 words on the back plot because of that...

At least I think it is a back plot... it is most definitely a part of the story at any rate emoticon

I got my very first rejection letter today! It was actually very nice even though there was no real feedback on why the story didn't work for them. I suppose that kind of feedback is reserved for stories the publisher wants to work...

Sorry to hear you got a rejection. But you've already gotten further than 99% of people who want to be writers, who don't even get as far as submitting! And remember, all the top-name writers only become "success stories" after getting hundreds of rejections first emoticon

I want to second David here.

Getting a rejection hurts. Yet this makes you a real writer, who is showing his work to editors.

Well done! emoticon

As a good friend of me once said... the chance a writer is any good is roughly linearly correlated to the size of his stack of rejection letters.

Interestingly enough, with in fanfiction it doesn't quite work that way. emoticon

A rejection means I can submit the story someplace else though right? I remember signing a document that gave the publishers rights to the story for publication purposes (or something like that) but if they reject it then it is 100% under my control again yes?

That's right, you can submit the story elsewhere without any problems. It is 100% under your control again.

You don't even mention you got a rejection on it when you submit it to another editor. emoticon

I was thinking of posting a first chapter on some of my ongoing stories for critique here if that is okay...

I know my writing skills are nowhere close to what they were in my college years so either is fine. Just don't hit the face because I look terrible in shades. emoticon emoticon

That went a bit beyond where I thought it would go. I was banking on the Dutch reputations in some circles of being horribly frank at times, though I suppose I'm probably worse then most Dutch people if I'm not careful. emoticon

For some reason especially in some topics telling the exact truth is not really something people want to hear. emoticon

Ah well, I doubt it will happen anyway, it's only really a problem if things stray to such topics with me unaware. Writing is totally safe I'm sure. emoticon
