Favorite Creatures in Horror
Just to get things rolling, here's a poll.
I probably forgot someone's favorite, so I added "Other" as category. Feel free to explore that in your answers.

Re: Favorite Creatures in Horror
I went with other. Mainly because for horror I really like the abomination type of monster. Cthulu and his ilk are good. Things that are hideous, and strange, sneaky, and deadly, disturbing to look at, and not easily categorized

Right now I've got two different faves, so I haven't voted.

I went with other as well, I tend to like nicer things and there are occasionally some 'other' somewhat nicer horror monsters I think... very seldom, now and then...

I went with werewolves. I have always loved them, from the classics to the new modern ones. Just something about them intrigues me.

I went with demons. I was raised as a Catholic and with that background comes a fear of hell and the creatures associated with it.

Re: Favorite Creatures in Horror
I went for the Lich as depicted in the Robert E Howard books and in the original D&D. Not too surprising really when you consider that I wrote one of the modules used at Gen-Con 3 which included the first Lich in a tournament setting.

Rick, who are you really?
Actually, just WOW. Very cool that you helped to create the Lich things.

Re: Favorite Creatures in Horror
I have done a lot of different things hehehe. Even when working with Gary and David I was a Pastor first and the D&D was a hobby. I did catch a ton of flak during that time of my life though because "everyone" knew D&D was "evil."
I had to disqualify myself from a Gaming Con in Texas when they ran the module I had written! It would not have been a fair competition as I knew all the right moves to win. I did stay and watch though and was so disappointed with how the DM's were playing the Lich that I started a Master's tourney in the open gaming room. That was fun, I had over 200 players starting (in groups of 5) and only 4 groups made it out alive when the Lich was played properly.

Re: Favorite Creatures in Horror
Writing a module is a lot like doing a flow-chart though. I am way more impressed with someone that can take those random bits and pieces, mix them all together, and make a good story out of them.
It does get me the occasional request for autograph though which is fun.

Ohhh, Grendel.
I remember a "Voyager" episode featuring Grendel. It was actually an alien creature that turned up during a holographic rendition of Beowulf. I liked that one a lot.

I always felt sorry for Grendel. He's going about his business and some bloke comes along and rips his arm off. And as for his poor mother...

Re: Favorite Creatures in Horror
Did you read the book "Grendel"? That did make me switch perspectives quite a bit. I think Grendel-the-actual-living-being is probably a very sympathetic creature. But Grendel-the-evil-that-lurks-at-night was the epitome of the boogie man.
