Re: Interesting Quotes Thread

It's from the prologue of Also sprach Zarathustra:

quote:

I tell you: one must still have chaos in one, to give birth to a dancing star. I tell you: ye have still chaos in you.

Alas! There cometh the time when man will no longer give birth to any star. Alas! There cometh the time of the most despicable man, who can no longer despise himself.

Zarathustra is telling the people to get up off their lazy asses and do something worthwhile before it's too late, otherwise mankind will turn into a bunch of Big-Brother watching, X-Factor idolizing losers.

At least, that's what I think he's telling them emoticon

Or, you can't be creative if you become complacent. You need to have a bit of unpredictability in you. (I think.)

Agreed.

How old is your copy, David? Mine is called Thus Speaks Zarathrusta, which is slightly more modern - translated so even idiots can understand, perhaps.

Also Sprach Zarathustra is the German title. My translation is called Thus Spake Zarathrusta (note archaic spelling of Spake) from 1999.

It's really hard work to read. It's all in archaic "Biblical" English, which is what Nietzsche apparently used (well, archaic German, obviously).

To be honest, I'm not at all sure I understood it all. I was discussing it with a friend last night (prompted by your quote) and she recommended I don't read Man and Superman because it's even worse emoticon

And this one is rather true.

Okay, Corv, whoa - that's quite nerdy and scary.

I was referring to the NJO novel (can't remember the title, the first NJO novel) when Anakin points out that Han always says it. It is, he says, Han's trademark line.

That just sounds like it needs some context. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense as is, you know?
