Rejection #2
I panicked last year. I hadn't submitted anything. I spend a few days adapting my suicide story into a short film script, and submitted it on the 31st of December.
I got my rejection today. Yet again, it is a lovely rejection, full of hope...
quote: Thanks for sending through your script. I've finally read it, sorry its taken so long and have some feedback for you.
At the minute i'm not really looking to produce any more shorts as i am trying to move into features and documentary and already have a large-scale short in development. But i think a company like Video in Pilton would be ideal for you to get in touch with: www.piltonvideo.org.
Firstly i like your writing style and the cyclical nature of your idea. It reads like a slightly more depressing 'Groundhog Day' meets 'Ghost Town'. I think my first and main suggestion would be that you should really work on the humour and tone of the piece as it could play too dour. Also your girlfriend character is quite a one-dimensional b****, if shes more likeable in some way then maybe we could understand the protagonists desire for her. Final little thing starting or ending a script with an alarm ringing is a bit of a short film cliche, maybe you could just jump straight into his actions and choices.
Anyway hope this helps in some way and you are not offended by what i have to say.
Good luck and do stay in touch.
I like it.
I'll just have to submit a full length script, then.

Re: Rejection #2
That sounds very positive. Are you going to submit to the other place he mentioned?

Re: Rejection #2
That's a very helpful rejection, indeed. Both the feedback and the suggestion for another place to submit it to are rather good.
Good luck with the next submission!

Sorry to hear about the rejection, Blitzen, but at least it was a useful one! Good luck fixing it up and resubmitting!

Re: Rejection #2
Certain wasn't a form letter rejection atleast, so I guess you're doing pretty well.

Re: Rejection #2
I've been looking at the link, and it's a community project; they give you cameras on loan and things. But I have no actor friends and no director friends and no editor friends and I can't do the whole thing myself.

If this isn't an oxymoron: Nice rejection.

Re: Rejection #2
Blitzen, maybe they have a few production teams that would like to do the story? Even if it's a community place, they should have some regulars.
Good luck!

Re: Rejection #2
It's good to have so positive a rejection. Especially one that gives you another place to go.
Hope you can find a way to continue.

Re: Rejection #2
I emailed her again. Just saying thanks for the advice. How's this for a positive step... she's glad I haven't given up and is willing to look at any features I submit.
