My first submission

I submitted a story to the Gilgamesh Anthology advertised in the Gossip Corner. I actually sent it off on Thurs but I've been distracted by work.
I felt a little excited, although I'm not sure what chance it has. It's not that I have any concerns about the story itself but there's quite a wide range of material that could be covered. It's only one story in an anthology and I think the decision might depend on what fits with the other stuff.

Thank you everyone! emoticon

I'm just waiting to see what will happen. Not getting my hopes up, just wait and see. They said they would try and get back to everyone as soon as they can after the 1st.

I regret to inform you that I will not be considering your submission: 'Descent' for the anthology. I felt that the story idea had some merit but several issues were raised when reading it. First the story itself is not so much a retelling of an Assyrian myth but a totally original story using Assyrian characters.

The transition between characters was disjointed both in plot (as it should have been) and in writing (which didn't work) and I would suggest tightening up that aspect of the story before resubmitting to another market.

I wish you all the best in your writing endeavours.

As you can see I got a rejection, but actually I feel pretty good about it.
The response is polite and helpful and I wasn't sure if my story would fit the anthology. The guidelines said they weren't just looking for retellings of myths, but maybe they decided to go more that way after receiving the submissions?

Also a response after only 10 days is pretty good.

That's a rather nice rejection, yes. It's always good when editors point out what they didn't like in a story.

Now, the trick is to look at your story critically, but also not to take that editor's opinion too serious. After all, you won't submit it to him again, will you? emoticon

Best of luck! emoticon
