Vulcanology on Mars
The big volcanos on Mars have always been a source of fascination to me. (Visiting them would be a geologist's dream come true, but an aerospace engineer's worst nightmare...) One of the things I found depressing in recent years is the widely-held belief that the Martian surface is "dead", since there is no evidence of (recent) plate tectonics. Similarly, it's thought that the giant volcanos are also dead.
But here's an interesting article I read today which suggests that volcanism (though not plate tectonics) may still be an active part of areology (Martian geology).
"Is Mars Dead, or is it only Sleeping?"
It's a bit technical in parts, but interesting. Enjoy!

Re: Vulcanology on Mars
That is pretty interesting, I wonder if we'll see any further eruptions... I thought originally the crust had probably become to thick to allow further outbreaks, but who knows.
