posticon My First Acceptance

I think I'm only gradually realizing that this is for real:

I just sent back the corrected version of my story to the editor/publisher who's going to publish an anthology project in which I participated.

This publisher runs a series called "Pandaimonion", which contains dark fantasy short stories. Last year, he called for concepts by author groups. The Geschichtenweber (a German author group I'm part of) responded with a project, and I wrote one of 12 short stories for it.

My story is called "Die arische Frau" (Aryan Wife), in which a Nazi officer needs a wife desperately, especially as his tastes run to men. So, he creates a wife through a magic formula. But the war is not going well ...

The book is going to be printed in fall. I can hardly wait to hold it in my hands.

Congratulations. That's huge!

I'd hope you're still pretty happy about this.

I'd hope you'll be happy about this pretty much from here on out.

Wow. If I read German, I'd definitely pick it up. Way to go, Firle!

Yes, I'm still happy. I know I'll be even happier once I get my very own copy.

I do hope I can follow this one up with an English story somewhere. Two of mine are out there even now, and one never knows. emoticon

The book will be available on amazon.de, but I have no idea if amazon.com will carry it. And of course, it doesn't make sense to buy a book in German for most of you. emoticon

Even though I already congratulated you, I wanted to do it somewhere formally. It really made my day when you told me it had been accepted!

emoticon

All your hard work has paid off. Lay out all your rejection letters in a row. Look at how much you put into being published, and smile. You've made it over the first big hurdle; savour the feeling. You've earned it.

Best of all you can now tell people "I am a writer."

Congrats!

Today, I got the proof of my story - as pdf-file of the whole book. And I actually found a few last mistakes that need to be corrected. I just sent the email back to the editor / publisher.

It's so exciting! emoticon

Exactly! Child's play. emoticon

I'm not sure about translating this one. The publisher is afilitated with an agency that handles translation rights. I'll ask him - probably it's okay once the book has sold out.

That's wht my teacher said when he was trying to convince me to take the class.

A year later when the choice for exams came round, he was saying "perhaps this isn't the right subject for you" emoticon

I read the other day about a man who taught himself English by reading Dickens over and over until he understood it. Maybe I should try that with your story?

It would be a little tedious, but it could work. emoticon

Seriously, I learned most of my English just reading boosk, and picking up words and expressions from them. It does help to have a basic understanding of grammar, though.

I get to brag some more: The book can now be ordered from the publisher. Unfortunately, he won't ship outside of the EU - but amazon.de should carry it soon, as well, and send it all over the world.
