Re: 2018 Chat

I spent several hours on Saturday formatting "Dragon Prey", ebook version. Still learning new things about Jutoh and the whole process. Manuscript prep is key...

I also gave myself permission to play a computer game on Sunday, and that felt amazingly good. I play an old game in a very familiar environment, and it's very soothing and peaceful, even though I kill things. Ahem.

(If you want to know: Titan Quest)

Even so, I'm more than half-way through my final read-through, and I have found a handful of errors to fix. Will finish that today.

I need to nudge my cover designer today to finish the print cover. Then I can upload everything. KDP Print might not work very well since they are absorbing CreateSpace books at the moment. I will find out.

I got email that I sold three books on iTunes in August. Together with the one sale in July, it means someone bought my entire dragon series. Whee. emoticon emoticon

So my writing life continues, and I'm still having fun with it.

Happy writing! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Slow and steady wins the race. And as frustrating as it is, perhaps it's better than getting a flood of sales that stop over time. emoticon A slow build that flows up and down, and up ... and up and down ... two steps forward, one step back ... will eventually gain you a nice steady income flow, that will one day pay more than your other job/s. emoticon And, yeah, waiting for the day you can afford to write full time is a huge pain. Which I hope to one day suffer from. And hopefully I can tell myself the same thing I'm saying here.

I play the Microsoft Solitaire games on my computer to relax. Not many brain cells have to be used on the games.

Thank you, Jox. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Yes, I'd prefer to build slowly, rather than become a shooting star only to crash and burn. I want this to be solid.

I often play Spider Solitaire, as well. Just soothing my mind, really.

Today I really want to finish the read-through. Yesterday, I found more typos and a few awkward sentences. And of course, I'm editing the ebook, but all changes also go into the print version and my master file.

I spent at least an hour yesterday chatting with the customer support of my website host. And finally - finally!! - he agreed to have tech check the DNS settings of the actual server. Because that's where the problem must be. My websites are becoming a pain to maintain - even though they are perfectly visible and running. I really hope they'll fix it, or I have to move to another host, which is another HUGE pain.

I nudged my cover designer to finish the print wrap this morning. I really, really want to upload my new book, either today or tomorrow.

And I might even write...

Happy Writing! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I haven't played Spider in ages. I mostly play FreeCell now. Took me forever to figure out how to play it, but now I love it. Klondike (Classic Solitaire) is my second favorite, but I have few wins with it. I also like Pyramids, and TriPeaks. I don't have many wins in those either.

I am going to attempt a significant restructuring of my business' with the goal of cutting back on the hours I work to pay the bills. I don't know how successful I will be, but if I don't try, I'll never know.

If everything works perfectly, I will gain 20 hours a week of free time which means I can relax a little bit instead of going full tilt all the time. emoticon

Insane day today, after an insane afternoon yesterday. At least I'm on vacation - not wasting time at the day job.

"Dragon Prey" is live as ebook on Amazon. Print is ... happening soon, I hope by the weekend. Running into some problems with the print cover. Fortunately, my cover designer is willing to work with me on that.

I got lots done during my morning, and then I crashed in the afternoon. Met a friend and we chatted for WAY too long, but I needed that. Got more done tonight, including a job application.

If I get the job, my life will change drastically. I'll be working full time in a busy job, so I will give up my coaching. Writing will be somewhat reduced, but that's something I cannot give up. And maybe I can volunteer somewhere to keep the coaching alive.

Of course, this is all up in the air, but I like to have plans...

And now for some writing!

Wishing you a good writing day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Traveling went well, and I am now at my sister's place. I already went with the family to buy new chicken. Adventure already!

Of course, more stuff is going wrong - I may not be able to visit my friend in the Harz Mountains - car trouble. I will have a calm discussion with my Dad to see how things could work out.

No writing - obviously. I was utterly exhausted yesterday.

And actually... well, some writing did happen, in a way. My nephew wants to write a story, and we did work out a few sentences together.

And I think I'll take some fun pics with Ember, my little dragon plushie - newsletter content.

Happy writing! emoticon

Back at my Dad's after an easy, relaxing day at my Sister's.

We went and bought three new chicken in the morning, though. That was rather fun. The boy are all about taming them now. emoticon

Had a lovely dinner yesterday, my favorite dish - Rouladen.

This morning, I got up really, really early to walk into town and take pics of empty streets. I hope my cover designer will be able to use them for the new Konrad covers - once I finish writing the sequels.

Now my Dad is practicing the violin (he will participate in a concert in February), and I have some downtime before we fix a creative lunch and then will take a friend out for tea. Friend can't walk well, so we'll go for a scenic drive and a cafe where we can park.

No pressure to write. This is a *vacation*.

Happy writing to you! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have never heard of this dish before, so I looked it up.

I was a bit surprised to see "dill pickles" in the recipe because the German Deli doesn't have them on the shelves...

The field next to my home was on fire when I got home tonight. I called emergency services, and the call went to the wrong county! Finally managed to get the call rerouted to the proper city and the firemen arrived in less than 10 minutes. Thankfully the fire was still localized. It is a big fire; flames are roaring up above the trees. I hope one firetruck is all it takes to get the thing under control.

So yeah... finally picking things back up. Second day back at work. And I have a very, very tedious job to do. May not finish it today...

Rick: Love that you looked up Rouladen. And well... we call those just pickled gherkins, I think. My BiL didn't include those, although they traditionally belong in there. If I ever make them, I'll get larger pickled cucumbers and slice them lengthwise before putting them in. (I really should make them... love them.)

I practically avoided coming online for most of my vacation. And if I did, I checked the FB group, basically.

It was a great vacation. I very much enjoyed it, despite all the trouble around my Dad's surgery (which went very well), and the trouble with the car. I did get to the Harz Mountains, and I did get to see my old friend from University. I walked a lot, had good food, and practiced vocabulary with my little nephew who is learning English and Spanish.

Now I'm focusing on my book launch - launch party on FB on the 13th - and then I need to promote my tapping class. Which I will offer again on October 27th, in time for NaNo.

Need to figure out a strategy for my marketing. No real idea how to do that, just as I don't really have any real idea about running a business at all. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Anyway, happy writing. emoticon

Lazy weekend. I played a game with my nephew. Visited a friend in hospital. Sat in the sun on the balcony.

What I didn't manage to do was to write. Totally blocked. I need to read through Zell #3 and turn it from half a manuscript into a book - and don't want to.

I need to read through the print proof of "Dragon Prey" - can't stand reading that story one more time. emoticon

I'm pondering NaNo, and tentatively plan to write Konrad #3, but in order to do so I need to finish #2 - which means reading through it and coming up with a plan for the big showdown. Gah.

So yeah. Happy writing to you guys and gals! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I have the desire to get back to editing my first novel, but the new position in my company is making it difficult to concentrate on the book and learning the system on the logistics side. Combined with not one but four LO's either leaving or being forced to change their availability schedules my workload for the next month has increased instead of decreasing! It seems no matter which way I go I end up with the 65 hour work week *sigh*

I'm not writing. Just don't have the energy. I'm glad I get deliverables done, such as the day job and blog posts. NaNo is coming, and I would love to write Konrad #3 in November - but I need to finish Konrad #2 before that.

And Zell... sigh. Need to rekindle the joy in that tale.

We have beautiful weather, and so all I want to do is sit on the balcony and do Sudoku. emoticon emoticon

Wishing you all a happy writing day. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Went to the dentist because of remaining upleasant feelings in my jow and around my root canal tooth. He explained that that's normal. And we discussed getting something - no ida what that's called in English - to wear at night, to mitigate me gnashing my teeth.

Visited my friend in hospital again. She's looking better, and the docs are please with the progress. They want her on crutches soon.

Tomorrow is my launch party on FB. I have no idea how to structure that. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Weather is beautiful, and I plan to sit on my balcony in the mornings and actually WRITE. That would be wonderful.

Wishing you a good day and happy writing!

Hi guys,

Wow! Look at this place! It hasn't changed a bit, this is amazing. It's so lovely to see everything, just like the old days emoticon

How's everybody doing? I take it everybody's still writing?

Hope you're all well,

Hi Dan,
thanks for looking in!

Why change a working system? emoticon

Honestly, I haven't had the energy to redecorate. People seem comfortable here.

I'm writing and publishing, and most of the others are writing - those that still come in for a chat.

How are you? How has life treated you? Are YOU still writing?

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I had my big Facebook launch party yesterday, and it was okay. Too many gifts. Can't believe that's a thing. And I sold one copy of my new book to a friend.

 emoticon

Today, I'm enjoying another unseasonably warm day, will go and visit a friend in hospital, and hopefully set up the epub of my new book. This launch has been another mess... but I am gradually learning.

Not sure what to write next. So many projects that want to be finished...

Wishing you a lovely writing day! emoticon

Yep, still writing. Been published a dozen-odd times in recent years, so it feels kind of weird coming back to the place where it all started; it's like a different, simpler age, but I'm reminded of how little belief in/understanding of my own abilities I had back then, compared to now.

Life's been very busy on just about every front. I'm a therapeutic counsellor now (do I remember correctly that you're in a similar line of work?), so when I'm not writing about the dark sides of fantasy worlds, I tend to be thinking about the dark side of this one...

Congratulations on the launch party; if I'd turned up here twenty-four hours earlier I might have been able to come! Hope the launch sorts itself out. I'm still a bit too nervous to try the self-publishing route, I'd rather let others do all the hard work. I suspect the time's going to come eventually, though; that's the way the world seems to work, these days.

Completely with you on the number of projects that need to be finished. I was asked the ole question, "How do you get your ideas?" the other day, to which my default answer has become, "How do you get yours to stop?!" But it's a good problem to have. I've reached that lovely stage where I've figured out what works for me, so all I have to do is put in the time and enjoy the ride. Usually at about three in the morning, snuggled up in bed, listening to the rain outside. Love it.

Any of the really old gang kept in touch?

Hi Dan emoticon

I don't know if I count as one of the "old gang," but I am still here. I finished a rough first draft on my first novel, and as I get time, I do work on editing and rewriting it. One of this days I might even get around to submitting the book to a publisher to see what happens.

It is good to see you dropping back around. emoticon

Dan: It's awesome that you have kept writing and got published several times. So cool to read about your writing process becoming an enjoyable ride. That makes me very happy - one of the purposes of this place was and is to encourage authors. emoticon

Congratulations on becoming a therpeutic counsellor. And you remembered correctly, that's what I do, as well. Unfortunately, neither my practice nor my books earn enough money for me to quit the day job. That does remain a dream of mine.

I'm still connected to some of the old regulars, mostly through FB: Bloodstone, Reythia, LoudG and BaneBlade. I've mostly lost contact to Riane, though. A few others have died. emoticon

Do you have a website where we can look at your stories? Feel free to link it here.

Nothing much to tell about me today. I finally sat down and created headers for social media. Still not entirely happy with them - need to find a more dramatic background, and possibly buy a few dragon images to garnish those headers. And it seems my readers want more dragon tales...

Happy writing! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Well done on getting your first draft finished, Rick. Was that the one about [sign in to see URL] want to say solar sail?

I don't have a website yet. I've reached the stage where I know it's going to be necessary in the near future, but I keep putting things like that off. I'm just getting started putting a private practice together, too (as well as some very low-paid almost-volunteer counselling work), so everything feels a bit overwhelming at the mo. Mind if I ask what theoretical approach you use? I'm integrative, psychodynamic and person-centred--though I've got a love affair with attachment theory going on.

In terms of my writing, most of the stories have appeared in anthologies and various online magazines. I'll have a look around and see if I can remember where I put all the links. (my writing folder is still...'disorganised').

A shame about the former colleagues who have passed. Anyone I knew? Very sad.

Right, well, I'm watching Ant Man and the Wasp, and then I'd best go and punch out a few hundred words before turning in. I'm trying to write a love story--a very unusual experience for me!

Happy writing to you two, too.

Re: 2018 Chat

Dan: I came to counselling through a technique, more than anything else. I use EFT tapping as main method. I have additional training in trauma treatment and family system work, which I love. You could call my field "fast intervention, reorientation and stress relief". I work a lot with reframes of limiting beliefs and releasing old emotions. EFT itself is counted in the field of "energy psychology", which I don't particularly like, since it's associated with esoteric and woowoo stuff. I find my work often very down to Earth.

On my English blog, I'm trying to focus on helping authors write more and release Writers' Block, plus shifting limiting beliefs about the publishing world and their self-worth. I think it's a good niche, but I haven't arrived there yet...

I can totally understand that building a private practice is overwhelming. Unfortunately, you'll need a very basic website for that, as well. I find WordPress easy to handle, and it's extremely easy to set up once you have bought a domain and rented server space. I can ask around for good hosts in the US, and I can certainly help you set it up and teach you how to keep it updated.

For an author page, I would suggest setting up directly with WordPress - they still have a free option, although it is somewhat hidden and limited. Since you probably won't blog regularly, the website can be a simple list of your stories with links to the publications. This would make it easier for someone who enjoyed one of your stories to find others.

FurrySaint and TheKid935 died, one year and two years ago. They were my chat friends more than regulars here, and I still miss them immensely. I also think that Vegas Guy and Muladzh have passed on, as has Granny.

Have fun with your writing! emoticon emoticon

I was at the recieving end of a truly brilliant intervention on Monday, and that shift is still percolationg through my system. Yesterday, I crashed in my afternoon and took a nap.

And then I got busy, recorded video for my German EFT blog, set up the blog post, and uploaded my new book to Draft2Digital. This morning, it's already up on Kobo, Tolino and Apple. Yay!

Today, I want to get back to writing. Still not sure which story to tackle.

Wishing you a good day! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Re: 2018 Chat

Guten Morgen!

Right now, I'm on a rollercoaster of feelings. My books arrived. I had seven book sales yesterday. (Someone bought all six Cloud Lands books and Here be Dragons.)

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

But my tapping buddy flipped out when I told her about my change in how I see my businesses / hobbies. She flew into a rage on my behalf, thinking I had been abused and manipulated - and I got massively triggered, by the sense of my joy being wrong. We sorted that out, and I know it was a clash of triggers, both hers and mind.

Even so, it sent me into deep sadness, and it took me a while to realize why: My buddy killed my joy in that moment just as effectively as my mother used to do all the time. It's one reason why I find it very, very hard to enjoy things myself, and why I rarely buy anything "just for fun".

So... lots of tapping later, I can now go back and celebrate those sales, and I can look at my book and feel very happy and proud. But woah.... huge learning moment for me as a therapist. emoticon

No writing. *sigh*

But I did find new motivation for a non-fiction book I want to write on Writers' Block, and I finally have a solution for the problem that held me back for over a year. I have lots of material, and I basically should be able to simply write it out. IF I find my voice.

Anyway, wishing you a happy writing day!
