emoticon Good job. Seems you're going to make it to 2,000 per day.

All of the separate parts/sections of the eArticle are about drawing in readers. All, but one part/section, are connected in every way. Each may deal with different techniques, but are connected by one main idea. The one part/section deals with drawing in readers, but not the two factors that connect all of the other parts/sections. And this morning I decided I should put out the one part/section as its own eArticle.

Now I'll need two covers instead of one. And I'm wondering if I can use my letter openers in the image. One is a replica of Xena's sword, and the other is a replica of Hercules' sword. I own them, and I will take/own the image, and the eArticle for the single idea deals with Xena Fanfic, as well as fanfic from other works. (Published Fanfic) And I guess I should do a search for the rights to use copyrighted stuff for a nonfiction eArticle. emoticon I think I should be able to use the letter openers, since the photo will be my property, and I'm not claiming the letter openers as my own ... it's just an image for a nonfiction eArticle. (Gotta find the right wording to get the info I'm wanting.)

Yeah, I actually wrote 2k on Friday and Saturday. emoticon

I'm reading a book about writing ads (or copy writing). And the guidelines are amazing. I will certainly try that in my blog posts next. Because basically, they are meant to sell my services or books.

I think you can use your letter openers when you take your own pics. emoticon

emoticon emoticon I hope you get several of your works finished close together. And then you can put them out close together. I really think that the more works you have published, then more interest will trickle in and even keep a steady fanbase growth over time. emoticon I'm only going by what I've read from two traditionally published authors who say to start out with a number of small works, then a number of larger works, and then larger. That's what they would do if they were starting out now. And I'm banking they're right. *crosses-fingers*

I did some searches on using Copyrighted 'art' in images, (I figured the Xena/Hercules sword letter openers would be considered works of art), and I came across the term: "Fair Use." And, yeah ... I think that will give me the right to use the letter openers. Because they have a connection with the content of the nonfiction article. Now, if I used them without any connection, or for a work of fiction, I think that would get me into trouble.

More writing happened, again on the balcony. 2,262 words, and I very consciously stopped there. No burnout.

I did go back and wrote this morning... I want to expand the habit to include 500-1k words in the morning, so I won't have to expand the evening session that much. I'll be very happy with a regular daily word count of ~2k. That would definitely allow me to finish and publish a lot more stories.

And yes, I agree, the size of backlist is very important. Or as Dean Wesley Smith says: Every story you publish is a door to your magic bakery (where he compares stories to magic cakes that you can sell in tiny slices). I really hope that once I have 15-20 books out, a kind of cumulative effect happens...

Right now, the story is refusing to turn gruesome. Which is okay. I'm giving Girma (Zell's love) a very nice scene at the moment.

Glad you can use your pics! emoticon emoticon

It was hard to get the story moving yesterday, because the event Zell was being forced to watch (and thus transmit to his alien friends) was all fluffy and nice and about being good to humans, and he just couldn't believe it.

Now I know why. They found out he's a spy.

That's because suddenly, the story did start to move, there's a revolt, Zell is being in the middle of it, and I killed someone he loves. (I'm paying for that intensity with a headache today.)

I'll have a few more chapters of action, and then I can start reforming society and spring the final, huge surprise that's waiting for Zell.

2,372 words yesterday, and ~500 this morning before work.

2,030 words in total yesterday.

This morning, Zell was reunited with his current lover and mother of his kids. Now they just have to get out of that gladiator establishment - and figure out the big scandal.

Having fun...

Well done, Rick!

Yesterday, I really didn't want to write. I'm rather exhausted at the moment - mostly from the heat, from not getting enough sleep, and from some infections in my body. (Those are getting taken care of.)

I wrote anyway, and made it to 2,018 words. I didn't want to break my promise about writing 2k every day - although I have permission to do so if I simply can't manage. I'm actually thinking about making next Sunday a "do nothing day" (except I'll be out for brunch with friends).

I'm not happy with those revolt scenes, and I'm already having one idea of how to rewrite a particular scene to make it much more dramatic and intense, and personal for Zell.

I'm not good with moving lots of people, so I'm happy I'm back to just two exploring the final secret of the place - soon it'll just be Zell, and he'll have to fight for his life today or tomorrow.

So yeah... also time to start formatting Dragon Prey. I'll get the cover soon, and I want to release it end of August. Need to start advertising it...

A storm was moving in as my writing time approached. So I cleared my balcony, watched the storm for a bit, and then settled in my armchair to write.

Still not happy with that revolt chapter - I will rewrite it, and I already know how.

But I went on to the big scandal chapter. Zell discoveres that crime and almost ends up as a tasty mating gift... and fights an impossible fight, fortunately getting saved by his new alien friend.

2,080 words. Wasn't easy, but I wanted them. And the storm was much less than I expected. emoticon

emoticon Seems you've got a nice 2,000 word niche going on.

I used up 10 notebook pages when refiguring one of my game boards. I came up with the idea for this game back in 1987. There was no indie-publishing print-on-demand at the time, so I didn't consider that the more parts the game had, the higher the price would be ... plus my addition to the price for income.

An 18x27 board is $20 ... so I scaled down the game to fit 18x18, which is $10. It was going to have 5 spinners ... but I decided to use dice instead, which are cheaper. Four dice vs five spinners, no contest ... dice are way cheaper. Now I gotta figure out how many 'people' parts I want to use. How many pages in a booklet. How many pages per score pad ... etc. Try and get my product the cheapest I can so that when I add my 'royalties' to the price it won't be too overpriced.

I also wrote half a page on ideas for two stories. The ideas are closely connected. The trick will be in creating two vastly different worlds to stick those ideas into.

Wow, you're doing well with the game! Good choices.

I wrote 2k on Friday and another 2k yesterday. Zell is definitely moving, and I'm starting to figure out the big showdown.

Today, I had brunch with friends and we brainstormed new titles for the series. And I reluctantly gave up my -ive idea. So now the new titles are:

#1 Captive
#2 Fugitive
#3 Catalyst
#4 Fulcrum

And I know which cover artist I want to ask for the covers... she creates amazing alien landscapes. I won't dare to ask for aliens on it... that would mean painting, and it would be extremely expensive.

Thanks. I'm also redesigning the layout of the board. Back in '87 I let the poster board size define the layout, and I never stopped to consider that it's as awkward design. I used up several notebook pages today in figuring out how the board design should have really been laid out all along.

I originally used 1-inch squares, which made the board 23x23. And I'll probably use that scale for the model so that I can read what I print in the squares. But for the actual game design digital file, I'll use 3/4-inch squares, which will make the board game size be 17.25x17.25. And then there will be a 3/4-inch border around the game design.

I haven't done any computer work on the design yet, so not quite sure about how the print in the smaller squares will look. But I'm not going to wrap my head around that until I get the game design figured out. There are many different kinds of fonts, so I'm sure I should be able to find ones that work best within the squares.

And then, once I've got it all figured out, and have drawn it on a poster board, 'The Game Crafters' suggests playing the game at least a hundred times to tweak anything I didn't think of before. So, I'll have my family play the game while I watch, so I can make notes of what hangs them up, what I may have left out of the instructions ... any ideas that might come up from seeing the game actually played. (I could just buy the finished board from the website for my family to play on. emoticon ] And then, once I'm completely satisfied, I can click the 'publish' button and put it on the market. ... ... ... And then hold my breath until it starts selling. (Or not. Because I'd probably have to hold my breath for a very long time. Maybe forever. ... ... ... Note to self: I will publish and forget about it. Yeah. *crosses-fingers*)

I love your plan for the game! This is getting much more realistic and doable. And yeah... not attaching any emotions to the outcome is important. (I regularly fail at that. emoticon )

I added 2,058 words to Zell yesterday. That means I wrote 2k every day last week. I almost made it to 15k for the entire week! Definitely NaNo speed without the pressure.

Even so, I may drop back to 1500 for this week, just to avoid burnout. I want to stay in that habit of writing every day, because that's much better for me than writing in bursts and busts. The actual number of words is less important.

2,144 words for Zell. So much for dropping back.

Zell is home, recovering and catching up on the fallout over his actions in that gladiator place. (still have to rewrite a chapter of horrors). And he's realizing that convincing the aliens of the fact that humans are truly their equal will take... major effort. And he will be sent on a special mission that might accomplish that.

Writing is the one thing that gives me true joy at the moment.

2,114 words for Zell. Including a bed scene. For a purpose. They are starting to wage a political war. Not my expertise, so writing isn't as easy as doing action.

It's already getting too cold on the balcony for writing out there - and getting dark too early. Or I need to start writing earlier, which would be a really good thing... need to fix my sleep schedule.

I had a busy day and gave an intense session before my writing time. I still ended up with 2,157 words, after I got into the discussion. Zell is talking to a very imporant person, trying to convince him of his vision.

Not sure whether that person becomes an ally or an enemy...

I hope my cover designer finds time for me this week, as promised. If not... well, I should spend the weekend formatting "Dragon Prey". The desiger needs the measurements for the spine...

I wrote 2 and 1/2 pages on one of the articles. I can't do anything more on the game until I get grafting paper and a poster board. I don't want to design the game board file until I know it will be the final stage. So, drawing the game on, and playing the game on, the poster board game will show me how well the design works, and if any tweaking needs to be made.

Rick: Well done! It may take a few days to get back into the habit (and the story), but it is entirely doable.

Yesterday, I was very close to not writing at all. I had no energy left, somehow. But I took my laptop and sat down on the balcony anyway, pampering myself a little.

And since I have given myself permission to drop back down to 1,500 words this week, I called it quits at 1,607.

I hand wrote a few paragraphs on a different project. It's for a blog that I plan to create at some point. A friend wants me to write articles on each episode of Xena: Warrior Princess. The show is airing on a channel on my satellite, and as I was watching an episode today, some thoughts came to me that I wanted to jot down and file away for when I begin the blog. This isn't something I have plans on starting on now. I have enough projects I'm jumping back and forth between. But I also didn't want to lose these thoughts.

It's smart to write them down just in case, Jox. emoticon

I set myself a little challenge - and I need a break from Zell. So let's see if I can write a feel-good SF story in just three days. Deadline for magazin subscription is on Thursday, August 23rd.

I did a lot of plotting with the help of a friend interested in space and tech, and I think I now have a bit of a story, with a HUGE backstory. It may eventually spawn a novel...

So after plotting, I wrote 1,047 words for it. Required wordcount is 3,500 - 5,000.

Story title is "The Backup". emoticon

Yeah. I think a break is good every now and again. And I think that when you're blocked with one WIP, switching to another is a good way to keep you writing, and that gives the brain time to work through the block on the other project.

I wrote 2-1/2 pages for the future Xena blog today. Part of it was thoughts on the episodes that aired today, and the rest on the blog disclaimer. Plus, I wrote about a page on a dream I had, and ideas I got from that dream should I want to turn it into a story some day. I'm thinking it might work for a short story I wrote ages ago, but still needs work.
