Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! I painted my characters into a corner, but I have figured out a way to help get them out of it. I am combining "Steampunk" with this video to solve the problem.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! Probably not but I am trying to stay inside the conceivable boundary on my tech for this story. Circles, my "not paranormal" story will have spots that go beyond the tech edge and into the realm of magic. Then there is the Sylvia Rose story that keeps niggling my brain, and that one is real fantasy and magic.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! Love it!
I'm pondering my alien society for part 3 of the Zell trilogy - which is where he and his friends totally shake it up. Thinking about status, reproduction rights etc... fascinating.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! I know this seems strange but when thinking about why things in my story that are science based this instrumental helped me explain why things are not always what they appear to be!
The title explains it all. Space does have "fluff" in it and sometimes that changes what we are looking at in unusual ways.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! I am intrigued by Elgar's code. It is said to be based on a musical composition and took over 120 years before anyone stated that they had "cracked the code." I think one of my heroes, Leonard Ranger, will use it on his Podship but he will be using Christina Perri's song "I Believe."
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! In East Texas, there is a mushroom with the common name "the devil's cigar." The fungus makes a whistling sound just before it releases its spores and opens up into a star shape.
So I was looking at some funnel-shaped mushrooms and started thinking. What if there was a giant stemless mushroom that incorporated the traits of both fungi?
That is how I came up with my "Owl-horn Mushroom" that I use in my TABA story.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! Sexual Harassment has been in the news for months now. This news frenzy inspired me to use a "sexual entrapment" scene in "Transit Promises" where Vivian does everything she can to force the government "rent-a-cops" to blunder into a situation she can use to get them to "sexually harass" her. The problem is the time frame. If she pushes too much, she might have to allow more than she bargains in order to close the trap!
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! The society has changed (4-1/2 centuries in the future). The gender and procreative terms no longer apply in criminal cases, but the "action" does apply so what Vivian is aiming for is "aggravated harassment." It is a dangerous game she is provoking that can easily escalate into "physical assault."
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! She will also have to be very careful that she doesn't expose herself to entrapment charges. It's a slippery slope. She needs to be as natural in her actions as possible.
Of course, I don't know the law there, so I leave this to you to decide if it's a useful suggestion.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! I cut a piece of paper into four pieces and framed them. My wife thought I was strange. She could be right.
What I do is write to fill the frames, and I must put something in at least one of them each day before bedtime. It isn't very much (60-75 words per frame), but if I do one frame per day, I get about 25,000 words on a story in a years time.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! One trick I haven't tried yet is to buy butcher paper and cut out huge pieces to tape to the wall to divide the acts and scenes, etc., to plot/plan the story. My deli/butcher shop uses plastic bags now, so I can't get it from them. And I haven't been to a arts supply store yet to try and find a huge roll of paper similar to butcher paper ... well, the last couple of times I was in one, I completely forgot to see what they had.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! Those are living trees down in Austin Texas. The sculpture set frames for the branches and roots to grow in, so the park has five living bungalows for people to use.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! 😲 After three days of banging my head against the wall I have had a breakthrough on my "Transit Promises" sequel!
Now I have to get a Prime Minister to Pandora to make it work. The breakthrough is energy. Without a "Nation States" help the spaceship has no power to go anywhere.
Re: Inspiration - that can be everything! I found an outstanding PDF file on large orbital habitats. Just what I need to make my ships and habitats believable in my sci-fi universe.
