I stopped writing at exactly 2,000 words yesterday (I only notice that after checking), and decided to call it a day right then.

I had to find a crater on Mars for one of its major cities. So I only managed 78 words for my Transit Promises story today. Sigli crater is very close to the Martian equator, and Sigli City has a pleasant ring to it. emoticon

I pulled out some dice and established the cities population at 624,669 (roughly the same size as Glasgow, Scotland) just for grins.

I did write today but not on "Transit Promises." I discovered a set-up for a reconciliation scene between Christina and Benjamin was left out of the first draft for "First Transit" so I had to put that in place for their dinner scene to make sense to the reader. This additional scene sequence added 237 words to my first draft.

Re: I Wrote Today!

Still stalling in NaNo, but I finally figured out a big background issue for my "demons".

They have no gender. They procreate by making a "bud", a bit like amoeba.

The new, baby "demon" has limited intelligence, a limited sense of self and is quite biddable. It is a Rasnik, plural Rasnikki.

A Rasnik has to come into contact with a special artifact brought from their original homeworld that ignites the inner "spark" which is the basis for an individual personality. Once the spark is lit, they become a full individual with their own name. They also become a Rasnok, plural Rasnogski.

Only when a Rasnok gathers much energy and gains a certain "mass", are they able to procreate. This happens after many, many years of life as a Rasnok, and it depends on how much energy they expend during that life.

Once a Rasnok is able to procreate (by judicious and rare budding), they become a Rasnak, plural Rasnaga. They are the wise elders of the society. They can create a bud on their own, but prefer to do it together with another Rasnak, in order to create variation in energy shapes.

Since humans tend to ascribe gender to other species, they treat a Rasnik as an "it", a Rasnok as a male and a Rasnak as a female.

I really like the idea of a genderless society for a chance, and I finally have a function for this all-important artifact, which has been stolen and hidden away on Earth. Since that time, no new Rasnok have been created, but there are plenty of Rasnikki enslaved by humans.

Interesting world-building, Firle. Good luck with Nano, remember every word you've written for it is one you didn't have before!
Good progress Pastor Rick!

While writing the premise sentences for my story I found out that one MC didn't have a very definable goal. Which may have been the whole problem I was having with the story. I thought it was the antagonists who were giving my troubles but I was able to write out their goals and plans in a few minutes, I might not know how exactly they're going to go after their goals but I definitely know why they're misbehaving. emoticon
Odd how knowing what the MC wants helps. emoticon I'm tempted to see if I could write the story now but also want to finish the outlining process to see what else I learn. Oh the dilemma!

Linton is an incident investigator for the PLS Space Services and is trying to verify the account of what happened to the Exodus. He keeps failing in his "accident recreations" because someone either deleted or removed relevant files from ALEX's system (actually it was two people, but he doesn't know that yet).

I added 49 words to Promises after getting home from a nice Thanksgiving meal with my Aunt and Uncle and family.

Ah, a nice challenge for the investigator. emoticon

Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving!

I hope I can write today. My monitor is getting much worse, and this morning, I couldn't get it to stabilize at all. I was hoping for about 500 words, but that never happened.

So I'll either have to use my notebook for my FB work and writing, or with luck, I can borrow a monitor from Uni. Either way, a friend will come over tonight with a spare monitor.
