PR: emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Cool how it all worked out and you were able to finish book 1 in time to start book 2 for NaNoWriMo. Have fun with both editing and writing.

F: Would "Finders Keeper" work? Luck and Happiness sounds like the finder would be able to keep what they have found. emoticon Or check the synonyms of 'luck' and 'happiness' to see if another word that has the same meaning might replace either of them.

Glück can equal either and both of "luck" and "happiness". So "Finder's Luck" doesn't quite cut it, but I think that'll be the title if I ever translate it to English.

The word sounds a bit like the word "Fortune" which can mean both "lucky" and "happiness."

Jox: The first book's title is "Finderlohn", which literally translates to "Finder's Reward". It's a bit ironic, really, because Konrad gets a LOT more than he expects when he takes the job to find a teenage girl who has gone missing.

But he's a "Finder", with some paranormal abilities, so I think the English title will simply be that. "Finder". With a subtitle going something like "A Konrad Tsaretsky novel" - to avoid any misunderstandings with similar titles.

Rick: I like "Finder's Fortune". It has a nice alliteration, and it fits my plans for the book. And yay for getting a start on your new book!

So much to write and translate... I could do this full-time, if I had enough money. emoticon

I am annoyed with LibreOffice's "help" system. How hard is it to tell me to right click on the space in front of the page number, choose fields, and enter a -1 in the offset box to start number pages correctly after the title page? I wasted over two hours looking on their site before looking at YouTube where a fine British gentlemen showed me what to do in less than two minutes! (end of rant)...

Today I added 143 words to "Transit: Promises" before bedtime. Ensign Cithera Rallis has just been appointed as Baroness Angeni Tasunke's personal aide (royalty does not carry gifts, they present them).

TP word count thus far: 364

Yeah. I use YouTube/Google for Gimp, Libre Office, Scribus, and other free software I have. I just can't seem to find the right word combination to get my answers in their help info. They're not always set up for the layperson.

Re: I Wrote Today!

NaNo 2016 to NaNo 2017 the progress of my first novel.

Growth and progress report.

In November 2016, when I started my story I had the goal of making a new habit and doing some writing every day. My novel would have 30 significant scenes to work through, and those scenes would act as goals both to help me stay on track as well as motivation to complete the project.

November Word count total: 6,774 words, my average daily output was 225.8 words.

December Word count total: 9,442 words, my average daily production was 304.5 words.

January Word count total: 10,127 words, my average daily production was 326.7 words.

February Word count total: 11,911 words, my average daily production was 425.4 words.

March Word count total: 11,339 words, my average daily production was 365.8 words.

April Word count total: 7,416 words, my average daily production was 247.2 words.

May Word count total: 7,496 words, my average daily production was 249.8 words.

June Word count total: 6,730 words, my average daily production was 224.3 words.

July Word count total: 5,363 words, my average daily production was 173 words.

August Word count total: 6,386 words, my average daily production was 206 words.

September Word count total: 6,696 words, my average daily production was 223 words.

October Word count total: 12,085 words, my average daily production was 389.8 words.

So I am as slow as a turtle with a 280.1 daily word count average. But Hey! That regular writing exercise of mine paid off with a book having more than 100,000 words. emoticon

“This place is unfair! We are at the edge of the Himalayan mountain range, and this hanger doesn’t have even one window.” Cithera complained to no one in particular. She didn’t have police training, but she had been watching ‘crime vids’ most of her life. After doing her best to imitate the role of ‘bodyguard’ for a couple of minutes, she touched her ‘link. “All clear my Lady.”

Fix the start and end points of your story first. Then fill in the details and some checkpoints you know you have to hit. You can do it! emoticon

That's an awesome statistic, Rick. And it proves that even people who are extremely busy can write a novel - even if it takes a year!

 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Trying: I'll second Rick here. Get the beginning and end clear, as well as a few plot points you want to hit. Anything in between is a free for all - let your writer brain take over.

I'm finally back to my NaNo stride of writing 2k words per day, and catching up on the deficit, since I missed that goal the first two days out.

Happy writing! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Thanks for the suggestions. emoticon I actually know the ending and the beginning, it's the middle I'm having trouble with.
I have one MC that has been exiled for murdering the royal family, she's also dealing with a new marriage for political reason while planning a military campaign. The other MC is a traumatized child who is on the throne and is trying to figure out who killed her family while dealing with assassins and the Council slowly taking more power. She also isn't speaking which presents a challenge. emoticon
I need to plan what the antagonists are plotting and planning whether it shows up in the book or not. Then there is all the secret stuff and hidden emotions which I'm trying to working in without giving it all away. I feel like a weaver whose threads keep wiggling away, I'm hoping outlining will help keep track of everything. Maybe I should just go back to short stories where I can keep in all in my head/plan it as I go along. emoticon

Trying to find the right names can be so hard! I use ****** to mark where I need names and all my stories are filled with them. emoticon

I use xxx as placeholder for names. Easy to use in a search.

Rick: Yay! Love that you're using different cultures in your story. So many SF stories lack this.

I guess it is one of the things that slow me down. I hunt for a characters name when I need one. When I find it, I put that name in the stories "bible" along with why the character has that name.

Being so thorough might slow you down in the actual writing process, but believe me, it'll save you so much time later on that it's well worth the delay.

I'm not that thorough, I have a very good memory, but sometimes, I have to hunt through my stories to remind myself of things...

Rick, yes. Power through this. The story will let you know how it goes.

But here's a suggestion: Write your misgivings right into the text, maybe in a different color. That way, you won't miss it when editing comes around.
