But you wrote! And that's what counts.

I'm working on setting up a free email class to help people get into a daily writing habit. Will let you know once it's up.

Today, the dragons did something unprecedented. I'm stunned. And happy, because it's good for my characters.

Finished a 3000 word chapter. It took the entire month of November, but I finished the chapter. Now I'm working on the next one.

I am officially "on the quest" to complete a NaNo challenge now. I am posting my work in the Practice Hall as a way to encourage me to keep writing and ask for help in keeping me "accountable." emoticon

Congratulations!

Yesterday, I finished "Betrayal", book #4 in the dragon series. It needs some serious editing, though.

And I started my NaNovel, tentatively called "The Guardian", and did my first 2k for it.

I'm quite happy getting off to a good start despite a fairly full day.

I am moderately hopeful with the beginning of my NaNo project since I managed 1.3k on one of my three "crunch" days.

I have discovered when I have to write if I have any hope of completing the NaNo... Taking Jack London's inspirational quote to heart. emoticon

The end of day two has me at 2322 words. Tomorrow is a work related "crunch day" so I don't know if I will get much done then. Friday and Saturday I feel like I might be able to catch up and get with the schedule.

What is the limit of words put out on a busy work day? I'm wondering why there isn't a 3-Month or 4-Month Novel Writing Session ... and have the word limit per day be 500 to 1,000 or 250 to 750? emoticon

It could be the months of July/August/September or June/July/August/September. That would make 92 days or 122 days of writing time. emoticon

The whole point of NaNo was to create crunch days for writing. The idea behind that is that the pressure to write is so high that the inner critic goes away. No time to think, just write! It can be very freeing.

Of course, you can always create your own schedule for writing. emoticon

I do like NaNo, because I can force myself to write that much for a while. A month is usually enough, and I'm relieved to let go of the pressure at the end of it. Which isn't really a good thing, because I also believe that writing steadily is a good idea... which I never really manage.

I did 2k words on Day 2, getting both of my MCs into trouble and out of their comfort zone. Not entirely sure how the story is going to evolve, but since I know my target audience, I also know what is NOT going to happen.

I just thought maybe people who are really busy couldn't do that word count, so giving them a lesser daily word count and extending the days to 92 or 122 would be easier on them.

Being extremely busy as they are, the lesser word count would probably be just as crunching. *shrugs* But maybe not. I didn't give it a whole lot of thought.

To make the NaNo challenge you have to have an average of about 2000 words per day. Today I will discover if writing is even possible on my main crunch day...

I meant how many words is normal to get out on a very busy work day/s. Being that those who are too busy to write 2,000 might go for 3 to 4 months of a lesser word count.

It might still get them crunching even within those few words per day. But, on slower days they could write more than they normally do. *shrugs*

I don't know but I am going to find out this month. Yesterday was awful, I didn't even have time to write a full scene. I did get in 167 words but I wouldn't have done even that if it wasn't for the NaNo challenge.

I forced myself to do the 2k yesterday evening, after a completely unproductive day. emoticon

And if it hadn't been for NaNo, I wouldn't have written at all. I really wish I could discipline myself to 1k every day once NaNo is over. That would still mean great productivity...

For me, NaNo provides an incentive to write something every day. Think of it as the equivalent to a mental gym. Even though I have been actively editing and compiling a hymn book for two plus years now it isn't the same thing as writing. The NaNo challenge is stretching my brain and to have any hope of success I have to commit to doing something each day. By the end of November, I will have a new habit in my life and by sticking to it I hope my brain will be used to this new way of doing things and my word count will go up.

I don't want anyone to die in my story, not even the characters that are supposed to during the crisis event! What happens if I have a character die and then discover I really need that character later on in the story? How do I handle something like that?

You edit. emoticon

Seriously, I have resurrected a character I "killed" of in the first book of a series. I just never showed a body. There is a rescue mission in book 4. It worked because he was a mage who could put himself into stasis.

The beauty of being an author is that you can tell exactly the story you want to tell. If you want people to live - let them live and find a different solution.

So I would suggest to follow your instinct in writing and story telling. Do what feels best for YOU.

Despite interruptions and a certain amount of dread, I am having, on doing my first "crisis point" in my NaNo challenge I did manage to write another 565 words yesterday. The opening sequence of events is now set in my mind so it is just a matter of getting those down on paper now. One cool thing came to me last night as I was drifting off to sleep and that is a small dose of humor and circumstance at the start of the crisis that results in one of my characters not dying. It has to be a part of the story I think since I still remember it this morning. emoticon

I'm very happy that you figured out that bit of plot!

I love it when the mind comes up with solutions in that state. To me, it's the best way to plot.

Happy writing!

I had a similiar moment when I figured out my villain's motivation (in fact, it has two different levels of intensity) of creating a force of dragon shifters for himself. He wants to carve out a little empire for himself and a few others and their families.

I've been managing 2k steadily for the entire week now, but it is hard work.

I did write today but most of it was some notes on my "Planetary League" background so I won't get confused as the story grows beyond the 5k mark (over here).

I might have to do this with some other parts of my universe as the story grows larger...

Ah, you're creating a story bible. emoticon (That's what it's called, apologies.)

It's always a good thing to keep track of some background, characters, names, looks, titles etc, especially if you're writing a series.

Readers tend to notice of someone changes eye colors suddenly... or if a horse turns from black to chestnut midstory.

 emoticon

I wrote yesterday. Did a spurt late in my evening, in desperation, and wrote 1400 words in one hour. emoticon

I always wondered about that. My story is barely 5k in size and I find myself scanning it over and over just to get the character names correct.

My "story bible" usually consists of notes scrawled on pieces of paper... but some people use Scrivener for it, as it has a place for all those pesky details. emoticon

I also tend to have a minimal cast to my stories so it's easier.

I'll crack 40,000 today. emoticon

I spent all day yesterday attempting to create the "break-up scene" with Mona and collecting information on the place the PLS Exodus travels to in the "There" part of the story. Lot's of info but very little in actual writing (unless you count the additions to the "story bible").

I am going to add in the break-up scene that triggers Mona's sabotage later today as well and hope to get on with the disaster/crisis of the story.

Time to head off to work, the break-up scene is now solid in my head but it means I have to edit a couple of other scenes. Good to go now and I am finally able to get back on track with actually writing the story!
